I'm 55 year old female and was put on Simvastatin 3 months ago with a cholesterol reading of 6.8. I've been experiencing severe lower back pain, a burning pain in the right side of the groin and severe pain in my right hip and leg. It has become so bad that I'm finding walking difficult. I also have severe itching all over, especially on one part of my arm. I can't take anti-histimes because I am alreading taking beta-histine for vertigo. After reading the postings here I am seeing my doctor this week to have my medication changed. Since I live in the Uk cost is not a problem

I strongly suspect there is evidence from the drug manufacturers themselves that statins have no benifet whatsoever for elderly or females and high cholestrol actually helps longevity as we get older. I can not believe at my stage in life 55 yr male that I have become a doubting tom. I will never take another statin in my life and i will never accept a doctors word at face value ever ever ever again and that statement really saddens me. Make sure you research for yourself and also research COQ10 but only ever take the bioavailable form. Best to you from a statin ravaged New zealander.

I have just had a hip xray because of severe pain and weakness walking. The xray was clear. I have been researching 'statin-induced myopathy' and my symptoms are classic for this. I am seeing my GP on Wednesday and will NOT take statins any more. I'm only afraid of what muscle damage they have already done.

Hi.. I'm in UK too. I have just had a hip xray because of severe pain and difficulty walking because of weakness in my legs. The xray came back clear. I did some research and found my symptoms were classic for 'statin-induced myopathy'. I am seeing my GP on Wednesday. I will NOT take stains again. I am now afraid whether the damage they may have already done is irreversible.
