I started SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tab 2 days ago. I have bad feelings about this drug and today is 4th July and the weekend. I will quit it to get some other drug for my UTI. But it won't be for 3 days because the doctor is out till Monday to get another drug. Someone tell me a drug that does work for UTI. Someone mentioned Amoxicilln? Can that be used? The headaches are awful. I can't seem to empty my bladder at night so I never really sleep since I pee every 20 mins a few drizzles. I also was given that drug that makes the pee orange. It is Phenazopyrid 200mg. It relieves pain, burning or irritation of the lower urinary tract. Someone offer us info on a positive good drug they have used to help UTI. Thanks!

Cipro 500 mg and Amoxicillin 500 mg both work great for UTI. The sulfa drugs like SMZ-TMP usually work just fine too. If your not able to empty your bladder you might have a kidney stone which is causing some of the problem. Once the stone passes the bladder is able to empty. I know this from personal experience.

Thank you! I looked up Cipro it looks as bad as SMZ is. but Amoxicillin looked better online. I will request that one. I can't seem to get rid of this UTI completely. I always seem to get one afew months after "getting well". I will increase my water intake for now on. My bladder never fully emptys I believe. Any helpful suggestions? Thanks again. kmueller

Hi there. I'm 61. I used to have UTI's almost constantly. My kind doctor showed me how to empty my bladder when I thought I was through. Try bending over toward your knees, bending over your arms and pressing them pretty firmly. It really works...hope it helps. Another thing he taught me during this period was to always get up a few minutes after sex and to go pee. He said it would wash away any bacteria that may have entered it. Blessings!

Hi: I have UTI also and I'm taking the same antibiotic that you were taking. At least, I pee normal but I feel nauseas, I just took the third pill, I hope my infection go away. The reason that I have this infection is because I had a Histerectomy radical July 2nd, and I couldn't pee at tha hospital and they put back the catheter so I went to my house with that for 4 days more, then I went back to the Dr. office to take it out and again I couldn't pee through the night, I went back the next day and the Dr. put again the catheter so they put me like 3 times, it was very unconffortable walking with the bag. I hope you feel better soon and find the correct medicine.
Drink a lot of water and when you feel better with no nfection I recomend to drink cranberry juice to prevent another infection. Good luck. If you want you can e-mail me at florhall@gmail.com.
God Bless you!!!!
