I'm a 31 female. I was diagnosed with bronchitis/sinusitis on 5/2...

I'm a 25 year old male. I went to an urgent care clinic after over a week of severe coughing. The coughing kept me from sleeping for 3 days straight. I was diagnosed with pneumonia/bronchitis, an ear infection and a sinus infection. I was also given Biaxin (twice a day 10 days) as well as Tussionex for the couch (contains oxycode to help with sleep). I was advised to take Zyrtec-D and Mucinex-D along with the prescriptions to assist with sinus congestion. After 10 days, I felt better overall but was still coughing. I went back to work last night and halfway through my shift all of my symptoms came roaring back. I was awake all night coughing horribly. I went back to the same Urgent Care facility today 6/10/08 and saw a different doctor who after an examination said my lungs were clear of fluid however the sinus/respiratory infections were still present and were getting worse. I have now been given Avelox (400mg once a day), Allegra-D 1 pill twice a day, and Mucinex-DM for the cough. The doctor told me that Avelox is the strongest prescribed antibiotic available and will kill off my infections as well as any other "bad" bacteria it can find, and even good bacteria. I have to take an over the counter probiotic to keep the level of "good" bacteria in my system where it should be. I still have a few doses of Tussionex left which I will take at night until I run out - but I am nervous because my cough is really bad and the Mucinex-DM pills did nothing to relieve my cough all day long. I have not been on Levaquin, although I did experience some insomnia with the Biaxin. The Avelox actually made me tired when I took it around 12pm. I have never had Bronchitis or Pneumonia before but I would suggest that you continue to seek help, and ask to take Avelox. Tell your doctor about the anxiety issues and see what they can do to prevent that while healing your bronchitis. From what the urgent care doctor and my family doctor have told me - if these upper respiratory/lung infections are not treated, they will worsen and spread and hospitalization is eventually going to be a certainty.
