Hi
I was put on the generic of Toprol 2 months ago for heart palpitations, my heart has too many beats. Toprol is suppose to slow down the beats, which it does but I'm getting side effects from it. I'm having a problem with my weight after starting Metoprolol ER. I go to Weight Watchers and have been lifetime at goal for 6 yrs. now but now I'm finding it hard. I have a headache since last week and I'm starting to feel depressed. I've been very tired since I started taking this medication. I have fibromyalgia and I'm in pain but it seems to be worse lately and I can't believe how exhaused I am. I don't feel like doing anything and everything seems to bother me, I have no patience. Also I'm finding my memory is getting foggy. I'm going to call my Cardiologist but I was wondering how do you get off this medication? How long does it take to get off of it? These doctors think it's all in your head if you start to question them, I'm going to fire my primary doctor because he acts like I'm imaging things and he doesn't listen to me, I'm finding a new doctor. I'm glad you're feeling better and that you posted on this website.
Thank you.
Marie
Hi Marie!
When you go to your cardiologist, explain your side effects with authority. Don't even put it in your head that they are the expert or that they won't listen - you are the best source of knowledge about your body, so kindly but forcefully make them help you. Your cardiologist might give you another medication - you will be slowly cutting your Toprol doseage as you replace it with another medication. Because you have an irregular heartbeat, please don't just stop taking it. You will honestly feel like your heart is coming out of your chest and it could be dangerous for you. It took me several weeks to get off it, and I'll bet you can expect the same thing.
I don't want you to think that I'm just touting Go Chi, but honestly, it is one of the best things that has EVER happened to me. With your fibromyalgia and exhaustion, you might seriously consider trying it for a month. You get your money back even if the bottles are empty, and it won't interact with any of your medications because there are no stimulants or caffeine. I really don't care if you get it from me - of course I would love to help you - but my primary concern is that you get it! :)
Please don't hesitate in calling your cardiologist - the longer you're on Toprol, the longer it will take you to get off it. :) E-mail me anytime, and if I can be of help in any way, please let me know.
Take care,
Pam
