Glad I took the time to read the noncommercial posts! During my thyroid check last year bloodwork showed high cholesterol. I was put on Crestor in addition to having my Synthroid dose adjusted. A few weeks later I was absolutely miserable. Couldn't get out of bed. Everything hurt. My doctor thought I was "depressed" and asked if I wanted anti-depressants. Not needing to add another pill to my daily repertoire - I declined. Six weeks later I am feeling worse and just want to lay down and cry. The doctor had no idea why I would be feeling that way and was convinced it was either depression or thyroid issue. I was getting ready to leave for a trip to Mexico that had been planned a year in advance and was non-refundable - and I didn't have the strength to even pack the stupid suitcase. The trip was a bust - I laid in a pool chair just feeling crappy. What a waste!

Funny thing - nobody stopped to consider I've had a thyroid problem for 20 years and this horrid nightmare just started after I started taking Crestor! A few weeks later I stopped the Crestor entirely and after a couple of months I felt back to normal. Now, three years later - I've been talked into taking Lipitor. In my naivety (because I explained to the doctor that Crestor made me ill) I trusted that it would be different. It's taken three weeks for me to put two and two together - but here I am again - muscle aches - can't get out of bed. Everything just hurts. My knees, arms, mostly shoulders and in between. With all that is an overall lethargic feeling. Lipitor stops today -and if the pattern continues and I feel better in a few weeks - it's no statins for me ever again. I'll just have to eat like I'm supposed to and hope for the best!

I am 53 years old and have been on 10 mg of Lipitor for at least 5 years. For the past 3 years I have been experiencing tight muscles in my back and muscle spasms on my right side. I have had the following tests done - all of which came back negative: CT scan, Ultrasound, MRI, gall bladder scan, kidney scan, pelvic exam, even had a colonoscopy (that sucked), and went for physical therapy which the therapist said I had weakness on my right side. The doctor never even suggested to stop taking Lipitor but after reading these posts, I'm stopping myself.

I had been taking Zocor for about five years when I developed a tingling in my feet & toes. I went to my Doctor
and he said I probably had a pinched nerve that was causing the problem. So I went t a chiropractor for about a month, but the problem got worse. Went back to my doctor and he immediately said that I had neuropathy. I went to a neurogolist had tests taken and sure enough I had nerve damage to my feet & legs with severe shooting pains and tight
muscles. I asked the neurologist what caused the problem, he said it was the statins in the Zocor I was taking. I stopped
the Zocor the immediately but the damage was done. The neurologist told me the statin break down the fatty tissue covering the nerves and could take months even years to heal. Now I was a very active 70 year ald man went to the ymca three times a week walked 3-4 miles a day, worked the weights even played golf 2-3 days a week. Well, all that has stopped. walking has become a chore. because the pads of my feet feel like they have big knots in them. But the good news is I wont give up and let this rule my life. I still work the weights and still struggle thru the pain of walking that 1 mile a day. oh yes I have started taking vitamin C for my cholesterol

Right as I got to my full dosage- nausea. It was just just like morning sickness. It got better after a month.

Now, I just figured out that is causing acne. I never had perfect skin, but it seemed to getting worse. I finally figured out that it was from the medicine when I started breaking out in bunches of little pimples on my back.

After reading other side effects, I guess I have been sweating a lot also. Especially at night. I have had to be careful about making sure I don't get too hot at work (like when wearing a suit jacket.)

Can't wait to see what is next. Maybe it is what is causing my sore neck.

I have taken Levoxyl for several years, over which time the dosage crept up from 25 mcg to 100mcg based on my bloodwork. At first, I noticed an improvement in my energy level and had no side effects that I was aware of.

Recently, I was stressed and had an irregular heart beat with an inner jittery feeling. I stopped the Levoxyl and found that the tight muscles in my back and butt went away and the heart eventually regulated itself. Of course, the doctor wants me back on the Levoxyl. I have taken it at 12.5 mcg every other day without a problem, but once it is taken daily, the tight muscles come back and I feel very tired.

How do I find a balance between how I feel and the numbers on the blood work? I think that how I feel should be more important than the numbers. Is it possible that the pituitary is sending out too much TSH in error?

After 3 months taking lipitor, woke up during the night with full body muscle spasms. Emergency crew took me to emergency wherby morphine was injected over a three hour period to loosen the tightened muscles. Use of lipitor ended that evening.

For the next 26months, 8-12 major spasms occurred within a 24 hour period. Methocarbanol was and still is being used as a combative tool against spasms.

Currently determining what should be taken to provided nutrients to the muscles to help them to repair the damage done by the spasms that occurred.

Presently, major spasms have diminished to 4-6 per month, tight muscles persist, and its very easy to have muscle cramps when doing miscellaneouls medium to heavy duty chores. Medium would be reaching out to help pull yourself up and heavy would be snow shoveling with medium size shovel.

In my case, Zetia (non-statin) has brought my chloresterol levels down to an acceptable level & no side effects have occurred.

I am on WB XL and have been for the past year. Before that I was on 150 SR twice a day. Within the last 10 days, I have had severe tension and tight muscles in my jaw (right side only) to the point I could only eat very soft foods. I was in pain when I chewed or tried to open my mouth very far. I didn't make the connection and tho't it was tension. Went to the chiropractor 3 times in 5 days, which gave me some short relief. Went to my acupuncturist who came up with the WB connection. I didn't take my dose Wed night and I awoke this AM with much less tightness. I have an app't with a psychiatrist tomorrow to check out this possible side effect.

I haven't see this in the literature or here.

Like some of you, I also get very tired on WB and thus take it at night. Many think I'm odd because it hypes up most people. I sleep fine. My memory also seems less sharp, but that could also be that I'm getting older! Hard to tell what causes what after age 50!

My Cardio perscribed Lipator four years ago. It did lower my cholesterol 30 points but I noticed some of the classic Lipator side effects. Intermittant dizziness, headaches and memory loss that could have been due to high bp, bp meds, internal chemical unbalance, anxiety, etc. No conclusion.

After six months or so I started having muscle spasms and then loss of strength. After about year I couldn't raise my arms level or sleep in a bed. Anti-inflamatories and analgesics helped but not enough. After several months of sleeping in a high backed chair, I was desperate. My research found the cause could have been the statin Lipator, so I went off of them. The symtoms were relieved and within two weeks they were mostly gone, except for weakened muscles which have never fully recovered.

So far that's classified as anecdotal.

After a few weeks of relief, I went back on Lipator as a test. The symptoms returned immediately. When I stopped, they were relieved again. Now that's close to proof.

Doc perscribed another statin, Pravocol. It worked and I thought we might have the answer. Several months later I developed tight muscles in my neck which I did not relate to the statins. It was a totally different muscle group. After a month or two of barely controllable headaches and neck muscle pain, I tried going off the Pravocol. Relief!

Another on/off test gave me all the proof I needed. I wrote my two doctors and told them I was off stains - permanently. After the government issued the new overly agressive guidelines of "cholesterol under 100", they wanted me to try low dose Crestor every other day. After a while I started getting similar symptoms and stopped statins forever.

What is most worrisome about all of this is the way the medical community is not recognizing the seriousness of the statin problem. When I canllenged my cardio to report it to the FDA, he refused. "It's not clinically proven." Otherwise he's a good doctor, although I've had to lecture him on the trade off between living longer at any cost and the quality of that life.

I turned 70 two months ago and lead an active life.

Thank you for starting this website. I thought I was loosing my mind. I have been tracking my side effects for months thinking I had RA, Lupus and/or a thyroid problem. I spent most of Tuesday in the ER due to a migraine that I'd had for a week and a half. Now, normal CTScan, MRI, MRA, and blood tests later, maybe I have found an aswer. Pills are in the trash and my husband has placed an order with theyfit.com. I am 33 and had taken Yasim for the past year after taking tricyclen for 2 years.

My symptoms include:
sever blaoting
weight gain (20 lbs)
tight muscles
joint pain
never ending headaches - now a true migraine
stomach upset
acid reflex
constipation
blurred vision with spots in my line of sight
swelling
tinitus (ringing in my ears)
extreme exhaustion
sever mood swings - particularly PMS related
craving sugar\anxiety and depression

I found a web page regarding homoral deficiencies and my symptoms match up with their checklist. Whatever the synthetic hormone in this stuff is makes us sick! Hopefully, by stopping the pill and letting my body be "normal" for awhile, I will feel "normal" again - 33 not 80!
