I am having horrible hair loss too. I always had thick, helthy hair. Now my pony tail is about half the diameter...I have to twist the hair band 3 times instead of 2 and it still slides off. And I barely have any bangs left at all.
My doctor said it doesn't matter, (in fact, he wouldn't even acknowledge it as a side effect) since my levels are now fine. Easy for HIM to say!!
I'm considering getting the thyroid surgery now, so I can get off methimozole, but I'm afraid what the side effects for the OTHER medicine will be. Since that's permenant, I don't want to take that step too soon...but I also don't want to go bald!

I am tired all the time, short of breath on exertion (ie. climbing stairs, running, etc.). Have cold feet and hands, especially at night. Also, either feel overheated and too warm or cold and it can change instantly. Have difficulty concentrating, am extremely tired in the morning upon awaking and can hardly get up. I take .05 mg of levoxyl. My TSH tests come back normal, but I haven't felt right since my thyroid surgery for removal of a nodule and 2/3 or thyroid about 3 years ago. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea shortly after my thyroid surgery. I am not overweight.

I have been between 110 - 115 lbs most of my adult life. I tried everything to gain weight, but it didn't work. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease when I was pregnant with my son. I took PTU for the duration of the pregnancy. I was symptom free for about 4 years. About two years ago, I started to experience symptoms related to Graves Disease. I saw an Endo doctor who told me that I have a non-cancerous goiter that needed to be removed. I have thyroid surgery 8 months ago. I started taking Synthroid shortly thereafter. I have been trying to explain my symptoms of Hair Lost, Dry skin and nails, Insomnia, weight lost, lost of appetite, and leg cramps to someone for 6 months. Nobody listens. They just discount my symptoms. Today I decided to do some research to find out if I was alone. I AM NOT ALONE. I've been taking Synthroid for 8 months. My hair is so thin that you can see my scalp. Combing my hair makes me upset because I have chunks of hair in the comb. I too called my doctor and he replied,"I can't believe that your symptoms are related to your synthroid use." Reading these articles helped to prepare me for his responses. I insisted that I didn't want to take Synthroid anymore. He ordered blood work and advised that I have to continue taking this medication. I don't want to feel this way for the rest of my life. I have a 6 years old son who is full of life. I don't have the energy to keep up sometimes. I felt better before my Thyroid Surgery. (34 years old Woman, post Thyroid Surgery for an Enlarged Goiter and Hyperthyroidism). Where is the support????

In May of this year I went on Lipitor. My cardiologist quickly ramped me up to 40 mg. In June I had thyroid surgery and began taking Synthroid and calcium supplements. By summer I was getting dizzy spells, nausea, cold feet, and minor cramps in my legs. This went on for several weeks. I thought it was related to the surgery. A blood check by my thyroid specialist showed everything in good order. The dizziness, etc. persisted. I discovered this web site, read the postings and immediately took myself off the Lipitor. Two weeks later I began to feel significantly better. I told my cardiologist what I had done. He did not argue about my decision but suggested that at some future date, when I feel 100 percent, I return to the Lipitor. I don't think so. Diet, exercise and supplements will be my solution from here on. I'm very lucky to have caught this early.

46 year old male...In advance of thyroid surgery my BP went up to 155/100 with spike a bit higher. Lisinopril at first had no effect, so we switched to Toprol. The Toprol gave me really bad side effects so we switched to HCTZ and Lisinopril. Finally dealing with the emotional issues attached to surgery and some other issues that I hadn't faced up to for years (along with dropping 25 lbs) has my BP under control. In fact, it was too low on my last appointment so we halved the Lisionpril dosage to 10mgs (with 25mgs HCTZ). I hope to be off of this drug by the end of the summer...the only side effect I dealt with was a bit of a cough for a couple of weeks, but it went away with time. Just hang in there and stay positive...focusing on this stuff only makes it worse
