My 16 year old son took Levaquin 6 months ago and had a bad reaction to it. His symptoms were severe muscle weakness (he would get exhausted walking from the parking lot to a store and back, severe joint pain (in thumbs, wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles), dizziness (he felt like the room was moving away from him and would lose balance), and headaches (a severe pressure in the back of his head that was constant and then shooting pains in his his head that would come and go for no reason). I should say he was in top shape before this and wrestling in the 125 pound category. He took Levaquin to prevent an infection after sinus surgery.
Now 6 months later, his joint pain is completely gone except for his knees. They still hurt when he does squats and they are not good enough for him to go back to wrestling, but he can walk around pain free. His dizziness is also gone as well as his muscle weakness. His headaches are still there and still constant, but not as bad as they once were; however, he has had them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 months. He is on Lyrica which has helped make the headaches subside.
I have taken him to more than 16 medical doctors of all specialties, had multiple MRIs, CT Scans, blood tests, spinal tap, and an MRA. All come back negative. Thankfully, despite all of this, he still remains happy and positive that he will once again be 100% healthy; it will take lots of time, but he will get better. I know the first three symptoms (joint pain, dizziness, weakness) are clearly Levaquin related, but I haven't heard much about the headaches from people. Anyone else out there that has suffered from a constant headache after Levaquin? I REALLY want to hear about headaches from others!!!!
By the way, we have filed a medwatch already. I also know that Levaquin is not approved for anyone under 18 years old and he never needed such a powerful drug to prevent an infection, but there is nothing I can do about that now except to warn others. One of his UCLA doctors wants to write a case study on him to make this more known to others and I am helping him with that.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. If you have had a headache from Levaquin, please let me know where in the head the pain was, if it is constant, what it feels like (pressure, shooting, throbbing), how long you have had it, and what, if anything, helped. THANKS.

I too have had my Mirena in since January 2005 and just recently maybe about six months or so ago noticed that my libido is pretty much gone. I also cannot sleep. I don't go to bed till about 2 am and wake up tired the only way to get to sleep most of the time is with sleep aids or Nyquil. Acne was another side affect I got from it. Never used to get it and now I cant seem to get rid of it. No major weight gain but some depression and mood swings, anxiety too. The only good thing I can say about it is that it works to prevent pregnancy and love not having any periods at all.

I think this works best for me of all the others I've tried. Most longer acting sleep aids, make groggy or I can't get out of bed...Sonata has a very short acting period of 4 hours. So if I toss and turn for hours I can still get up and take it because I have enough time. It's definitely saved me from a lot of sleep deprived misery and I am thankful for that. I did experience some memory loss problems, usually because I didn't go straight to bed and lay down. This pill hit me in 5 minutes once....unbelievable. I've never been ab le to fall asleep in under an hour.

I have had my Mirena since 6/5/06, three weeks after giving birth to my third child. I only opted for it because a paperwork fiasco at the hospital did not get my authorization for the tubal ligation after delivery in time, then went I went for the pre-surgery consult, the doctor highly recommended the Mirena instead of a tubal and even though I told her that I had horrible problems tolerating the pill, I was told that the hormone level was low, and localized, and not to worry about any side effects.
I didn't have pain or cramping initally like a lot of the other posters, and had very light spotting for the first few months, to the point that I couldn't really tell "Is THIS my period, or am I still just spotting?". I thought that would subside, but here, 15 months later, I still "spot" up to 20 days a month. I have tender/swollen breasts almost every day of the month (to the point where even an accidental brush against them is painful and I have to wear my bra even to bed, something I never did before). FORGET about my husband even wanting to touch them! More on that later....
I go to my PCP tomorrow and am asking to have it removed. To help her, I made a list of my symptoms, and have divided them into Physical and Emotional Categories. I am hoping she does not give me a referral to a mental health specialist when she reads it, cause its quite extensive. I am NOT a hypochondriac by any means, just someone who knows my body and knows these are not normal: bloated stomach (still look 6 mos pregnant), weight gain (I am 7 lbs over my weight when discharged from the hospital after delivery. 7 lbs is not alot, but consider that is on top of a considerable pregnancy weight gain that has not come off, add another 7lbs to it despite a rigorous exercise and diet plan, including Alli (orlistat) that resulted in a 2lb. gain). Headaches, blurry vision, acute insomnia in spite of prescribed sleep aids, fatigue, achey muscles, joint pain esp. in wrists and hands, acne, cramping, night sweats, pain during intercourse (when I'm coaxed into having it), a worsening in my hearing and ringing in ears, sometimes a burning sensation in the top of my right foot.
The worst part is the emotional effects. Depression and dispair beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Wild mood swings. I thought "maybe I'm bi-polar?" but no, I don't have manic episodes, I'd say I have two moods: Despair & Self-Loathing and RAGE. I have destroyed almost every relationship I have. I have lost friends, family members that I have alientated with my wild temper, and last week, my husband walked out on me, saying "I just can't take this anymore, what is WRONG with you, you aren't the woman I married". My rage is 99% of the time directed towards him. It can be over something as simple as he didn't push his chair in after leaving the dinner table. I have anxiety attacks, severe daily crying spells, and the thought or suggestion of sex sends me into severe panic attacks. A sexual encounter, formerly a much enjoyed and daily event, has become a MAYBE twice monthly event that ends with me in tears and my husband frustrated and angry beyond belief.
I just hope and pray I am not met with "It's not the IUD" when I see my doctor (not the doctor that put it in, as we have moved across the state). All I can say is NONE of these symptoms were present before Mirena, it just took my husband walking out on me to sit and think and make the connection that maybe there is a coincidence. I started to see a connection to wild behavior while pregnant and years ago being on the pill and then, duh, light bulbs went off in my head. "This is hormonal". Sorry it took me so long and cost me so much pain to figure it out.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but all the same I'll say this. I started taking Singulair several years ago and noticed myself becoming more and more detached from the people around me. I would feel paranoid towards those who were close to me and would have thoughts of shoving people into fences or walls... just a buncha violent ideas would come to me. Then once after I'd run out of a container of Singulair, I began feeling tons more social and friendly. It was like knots in my chest slowly loosened themselves and I could breathe again. My asthma was under control without the medication, but I eventually got another month's worth of Singulair, and suddenly the old thoughts returned except now I developed insomnia to the point where I could hardly fall asleep even with sleep aids. There were nights when I'd sit up in my bed and imagine the worst things in the world about friends in my life and how they'd all turn on me one day. I noticed I had begun having these thoughts after I'd restarted taking Singulair, and stopped immediately. Instead, I chewed on some Ginseng leaves, which I'd boughten on a trip in Thailand every so often (they're green and not pills, and I didn't even chew them everyday) and both my asthma and my allergies seemed to be a thing of the past.
I ran out of the leaves and went back to Singulair, and now I'm having the same paranoid dillusions. But trust me, I've noticed and I'm not going to take any more.
Take my advice though, try Ginseng leaves. Not the roots, the leaves.

I have never taken pills except for mild anti-depressants when I was younger. I am 24 and I took this pill for 6 weeks at which time the Doctor wanted to up the dose from 100mg/day to 200mg/day, until the increase in dosage I have been sleeping more than usual, once I changed to 200mg/day within a couple days I started having progressively worse sleep until I couldn't sleep at all. Also it didn't get rid of my headaches just made them more manageable. I have been off Topamax for 2 months and my sleep was so screwed up during that time, I still haven't gotten back on track and now have to take prescription sleep aids and/or controlled substance benodiazepines. STAY AWAY from this pill!!!!!!!! It is not worth the trouble

Since I have begun Sinulair, I have noticed improvement of my chronic nasal allergy symptoms. For the first time in YEARS, the congestion is finally lessening. However, I have noticed that I'm hyper all the time now. Where I have had sleep issues in the past, they have only been excacerbated by this medication. Has anyone else noticed this effect? I have tried to research it further, but I don't have access to a Physician's Desk Reference. The web isn't giving me the entire list of known side effects. I have only seen the vomiting, diarrhea or headache listed, but have yet to see something regarding insomnia and hyperactivity.

I was on Effexor for several months ago for depression after not responding to other meds very well. When I went on Effexor I was all energy; bouncing-off-the-walls energy! I had to get prescription sleep aids to calm down at night. I also had insane dreams! They were incredibly vivid and bizzare. They were almost every night too which is very strange for me. The dreams are what I remember most about the drug. Although it definately got rid of my depression the withdrawl was just as horrible as everyone said it is. Hope this helps someone.

On an 8-week taper down from 80mg for ulcerative colitis. Lost 30 pounds from UC and was bedridden, miserable, and fully dehydrated for about 3 weeks before hospitalization. I was very worried about taking Prednisone due to past reactions (primarily insomnia and associated extreme emotional distress). My UC responded immediately to the Prednisone, and I went from 20+ daily bowel movements to 2-3 in a matter of 3 days. I'm now 2 weeks in to the taper, taking 30mg and feeling completely refreshed.
Definitely having some negative reactions. I've been taking Ambien nightly for 2 weeks, permitting 6-8 hours of restless sleep, waking every 15-30 minutes. The first time I took predinose, I did not take any sleep aids. I did not sleep for over 3 days and extremely sporadically for the following 2 weeks, with frequent auditory hallucinations.(So 6-8 hours of restless sleep is fine by me). My face is very bloated, acne breaking out worse than ever, insatiable hunger(gaining my weight back too quickly), muscle weakness-spasms-cramping, abnormally pulse/blood pressure, and fatigue/unnatural energy. Had severe dizziness and headrushes for the first 3-4 days before tapering to 40 mg.
All in all, I'm very thankful for the results. I feel considerable relief. My apartment is spotless, I have heightened concentration and motivation. Hopefully the negative effects will dissipate by the end of my dosage, and I won't be too far overweight.

Hi all,
I am glad I came across this site, I too thought I was going crazy. I recently switched from ortho evra to Yasim. I have been on Yasmin for two weeks, and while I am not half as moody as I was on the patch, i still get headaches and I cannot sleep. I can fall asleep no problem, but wake up shortly with cramps in my legs and an overall restless feeling. I have tried everything, sleep aids, etc. But it is just getting worse. I dont know what I am going to do. I just hope the symptoms subside. If not, I am off.

Continous nausuea and increase in restless legs. Did not help me going to sleep unless I also took over-the-counter sleep aids.

I have been on prednisone for one week for poison ivy and I cannot get more than one or two hours of sleep a night. I have taken sleep aids, benadryl, phenergan and nothing is working. My skin still iches like crazy even though the poison ivy is gone. I also have substantial mood changes. I am extremely laid back and nothing bothers me. My company lost their entire customer database and orders and my response was "sucks to be you" normally I would be stressed and trying to fix it. I also drank while on prednisone because the bottle didn't warn against it. I don't think I need to explain how stupid I made myself look. Does anyone know how long it takes for this stuff to wear off?
