WOW!!!! So many people out there with the same symptoms as me. This is my 3rd month on Nuvaring. I just started developing frequent headaches (which I NEVER used to get), I've been so tired, even when it's an absolutely beautiful day outside. for the first couple months, my appetite was increased but now I feel nauscious (like I was when I was pregnant). I actually took a bc test just to make sure I wasn't pregnant. I've also been very stressed out and feel a lack of "loving life" (if that makes sense). I've also been emotional, which I rarely cry or get up-set. I decided to take the ring out yesterday, so hopefully this will free me from these symptoms. I started the ring thinking it would be easier to take, rather than normal bc pills. Now after experiencing all this, I'd choose bc pills any day over feeling like crap. Good luck all.

Stay away from this !!!!!!. I took this for 2.5 months and during the middle of it I started to feel nausea and fatigue. I than started to get light headed during the day for no reason. I started to relate the pills to my symptoms and stopped. I have been off for 2 months now and I still experience light hotheadedness. It is now just starting to get better. Hopefully this will go totally away over time?
I also believe this brought on Anxiety as well?
Anyone else experience this?

I started Femcon 6 months ago after being dissatisfied with Loestrin 24 Fe. This pill has both pros and cons. My periods are lighter now (my reason for starting BC pills was because of heavy and painful periods). There is less cramping with Femcon as well but my periods lasts even longer now than before starting the pill. Last month I bleed for 16 days straight! Since this was the only time I bled for so long I decided to give the pill a few more months. I actually like the fact that since starting this pill my acne has cleared up completely and my mood is much better than before starting the pill (No mood swings around the time of period!) Another con though is that my sex drive as decreased and vaginal mucous has this weird thickness to it and it makes sex kind of uncomfortable! I never had such problems prior to starting Femcon Fe. I may be searching for a different pill or other options soon.

Mirena....pills..depo...ALL VERY SCARY!!Like someone else said in this website....makes sense- "can't have our cake and eat it too" I had the Mirena inserted in me about a year ago and I have back, shoulder and neck pain ALL THE TIME!
Also very sharp shooting pains.......not all the time but very painful, like needles. I feel depressed all the time when I KNOW I have no reason to be and horrible mood swings. I did also notice those weird acne looking bumps on my forehead and very dry skin which I've never had in my life! I am getting this thing removed ASAP! Thank you ladies!!

l will let it be known that I'm a healthy 27 year old..very active, never suffered with depression, never had acne, no headaches, never had mood swings (unless someone was pissed me off :) ) NADA...just the 7 day periods with heavy bleeding the first couple days..no cramps though. With that being said.....I have been on Femcon for 1 month now..I'm actually finishing my first pack..i have 2 more pills to go. I can honestly say this pill is NO GOOD for me!! If anyone already suffers from any of the things i've listed above..DON'T TAKE THIS PILL!! The first week on the pill was great..no problems. Exactly on day 10 of the pill..I had break thru bleeding that lasted the rest of the month. It was the nasty brown kind with an occasional red. I started to notice that EVERYDAY around 4:45pm I would become so furious over nothing..i mean NOTHING..go in my room slam the door shut..then turn around and cry because I knew I had nothing to be mad at. I became very depressed. My skin starting breaking out, but just no only on my face..all over my body. Really gross. Im now taking the brown pills and I have really bad night sweats. Horrible. These pills also made me very constipated. My sex drive went down hill too. HOWEVER, the PRO to these pills are I haven't gained any weight, haven't lost any hair (that i know of) and my period is sooooo light...still about the 5-7 days, BUT the cramps are almost unbearable and last for 3 days. I'm whiching in 2 days to Loestrin24 FE. If anyone is experiencing similar symptoms and looking for a new pill, let me know. I will be more than willing to share my experience with Loestrin also.

THANK YOU LADIES FOR SHARING. I KEPT GETTING HEADACHES, VAGINAL INFECTIONS AND DRYNESS, NO SEX DRIVE. I HAVE BEEN ON THE NUVARING SINCE JUNE, I JUST RECENTLY STARTED THINKING MAYBE ITS THE NUVARING THATS GIVING ME ALL THESE PROBLEMS. SO I DECIDED TO CHECK THE INTERNET I WAS HAPPY BUT ALSO SAD TO SEE SO MANY POSTINGS. NOW I KNOW ITS THE NUVARING. AFTER READING THE POSTINGS I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE LADIES ROOM AT WORK AND REMOVED IT. I AM GOING TO RETURN TO USING BC PILLS (ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO).
THANKS AGAIN,

Hello. I am am going through some major hair loss. I started the pills three weeks ago and i can honestly say that I have lost more hair in the past couple of weeks than i have ever lost in my entire life. I am 22 and I have no family line of baldness. I was on YAZ and this never happened. I switched to FEMCON Fe because I had breakthrough bleeding. Now not only am I having an almost nervous break but my face is breaking out. Something that I never really experienced with YAZ. Can anyone tell me if the hair will grow back?
Thanks

My boyfriend's mom who is an OBGYN gave me 12 samples of this pill (a year's worth) after I ran out of my Ortho Lo. So I said "Sweet! Free birth control!" Not so sweet.... I have been on this pill for only 2 months and I have experience a huge change in my personality. I feel like a zombie, I don't feel like myself at all! The most severe uncontrollable mood swings ever. I go from very happy and loving to a total train wreck! It's really sad... My boyfriend cannot handle me. I am usually always calm and mellow and this has made me feel like I am going insane. I have weird thoughts in my head, weird dreams, night sweats. I cry over anything petty! I do have lighter periods and they only last for 2 or 3 days but it is definitely not worth my mental health and happiness. It is the worst pill, I cannot discredit this pill enough! Avoid this at all costs, unless you want to be moody and depressed all the time.

I am 26 yrs old and have had my period since August 30, I am currently still bleeding, I went to my doctor who told me to start taking Femcon Fe. I started today took my first one in the morning and I was fine, mind you my doctor told me to take 1 pill 3x a day. So here I am with a horrible headache, nausea and I just feel so tired. I took Yasmin before and it made me sick as well. I am tired of taking these pills from hell that make you sick and not have a normal life. I still don't have a normal sex life being that I have bleed for so long me and my husband don't have that intimate relationship and I don't know what to do anymore, I feel so lost and confused. Please any advice.

I was on Yasmin for 3 years and never experienced any significant side effects. I tried several different contraceptives to help with my menstrual cramps, and Yasmin was the only one that didn't make me crazy. I didn't notice any obvious weight gain, and I never experienced the horrible things I have seen written on here. I sympathize with everyone. Several other types of pills have negatively affected me: Alesse, Femcon Fe. I think it at depends on the person. About 4 months ago, I decided to go off of the pills just to see if my cramps would still be as bad as they used to be. They weren't, but as soon as I came off the pill, I got mild to moderate acne, I was sweating like a man, and generally felt exhausted. I decided to go back on Yasmin simply to help my acne.

I was on Aviane for almost 3 weeks, but had to go off of it a few days ago. I normally have anxiety and depression issues, but they went off the charts while I was on Aviane. My general practitioner said that bc pills don't aggravate mental illness, but I'm thinking "the hell they don't!". In addition to being really nauseas and having a near constant cramping in my uterus for the last few days I was on it, I was having severe mood swings, high anxiety, hysterical crying spells, and I just felt so hellish that I wanted to die. My boyfriend was having to calm me down at least once a day. I couldn't handle any stress at all. All it took was my dog peeing on the carpet to send me into a breakdown. Right now I haven't had a pill in two days and I'm finally starting to feel a little better. Hopefully this will continue and I can try another bc.

When I decided to come off Yasmin I had already taken 3 pills from the pack, but just decided to come off it anyway! after about a week I got a period which lasted a few days, but I think this is normal ! I have since had a proper period. If you really don't want to be on Yasmin anymore I recommend you just stop regardless of how many pills you have just taken, your body will sort itself out eventually!

I was on Yasmin on and off for the past year without major issues (maybe because I used it for a month, then drop off, then another couple of months and another break) and this year I started taking it nonstop since mid July.
So almost 3 months later now, I'm beginning to bloat and feel tubby all of a sudden (which is ludicrous because I just started eating healthy and doing exercise 2 weeks ago, so it's not me pigging out and blaming it on the pill!!). My tummy is also swollen and distended on a daily basis now, and I have a latent feeling of indigestion every bloody time I eat, it's very uncomfortable.
Yasmin definitely upsets my stomach, and I can tell the difference because on the last week of the cycle, when one's off the pill for seven wonderful days just before the period, I have no issues whatsoever.
On this last cycle I've also been feeling really emotional and snappy, and this only used to happen when I was actually PMSing not randomly like now.
I seriously believed in all the benefits Yasmin promises, but I'm beginning to realize the weight gain (and I really hope it's just water retention) is about the same as with all the other hormones in the market.
My periods were definitely lighter and I got rid of the spots, but... at this price? I guess that as a woman, you can't win can you?
I also have a question. I've taken about 5 pills so far this cycle and I just want to stop, I can't go on like this any longer. What happens if you just stop taking it for good when you haven't finished the treatment?
Thanks for reading.

My daughter was put on accutane for about 4 months and WOW.....what a difference!! She only experienced the dryness all over from head to toe, but aquaphor relieved that. Her skin was clear by the 2nd month! She took 2 - 20mg pills a day for the first month, then down to one 1 pill a day. Her skin glows and is sooo clear!! She doesn't even get one pimple anymore! Along with the accutane, she used retin-A to reduce the blemishes...now have lightened up quite a bit!! She felt that bare-minerals make up was the best for blemish coverage. She stopped taking the accutane for almost a month now and we are just crossing our fingers that she stays clear!!

I took two 150 mg sustained-release pills of Wellbutrin for two days. On the first day, it made me totally impotent. The second day a widespread inflammation in the genital area followed, at which point I stopped taking it. It took me more than two weeks to recover. I had severe pain in the lower abdominal area and genitals, impotence and a general sense of inflammation stretching from the lower abdomen as far as the anus. One of the worst experiences of my life

I took loestrin for 3 weeks and of all the pills i have ever been on this one is the worst. I have had acne, weight gain, headaches, cramps, no sex drive, anxiety, rapid heart rate, my breast were extremely sore, and depression. I didn't even finish the pack because I was severely paranoid that I was going to have a heart attack. Once I stopped I got my period within 2 days and all of those side effects went away. My only issue now is I haven't had my period since that time. It has only been a month and a pregnancy test came out negative adding to the fact that I don't feel like I did when I was pregnant. It is still frightening though.

Here is my update:
I last took Lisinopril on July 7th 2008. .I am slowly recovering with the help of a good diet, exercise and supplements.Lisinopril strips the body of Zinc and Zinc supports the immune system. I am taking zinc, magnesium and co-enzyme q10. This c0-enzyme is wonderful! It takes about two months to actually feel the results but for the first time in 5 years I have energy.
I also take vitamin c. I try to exercise at least 5 days a week.My blood pressure is slowly coming down naturally.I will not take those pills. I will take my chances.
I think I have permanent right shoulder damage, although if I take Glucosamine, it does feel better.I still also have major stomach problems such as pain, indigestion and rib pain.

The tools are at your fingertips ... The almighty internet ... And your OWN imaginative mentation is your TRUE limitation... So TAKE control of yourself and BE accountable .... Sorry so blunt but MORE tough love and Educating people is whats needed.... NOT more drugs....

I had Mirena put in about a month ago. I am 44 and I smoke, so the traditional birth control methods are not safe for me. ( I can tell you, the pull out method only works for 13 years.....I now have a 3 year old daughter to go along with my 20 year old son and 16 year old daughter....LOL.) I researched Mirena and decided to give it a try. I have had bleeding since it was inserted but nothing I cannot deal with, I knew this would be a possibility going in. I do get headaches now, but have no idea whether they are caused by allergies or Mirena, since it is allergy season right now. What everyone reading these posts needs to remember is that if you had no side effects, you probably would not have visited this site after the Mirena insertion. So, it really is a one sided site, without the feedback from those who got Mirena, and have gone on carefree with their lives. I only came to this site to see if headaches were a side effect, since I have experienced several this month and that is not common for me. Anyway, I am glad I did not look here before the Mirena because I may have not gotten it .....I plan on being open minded and wait a few months to decide for myself.

I get very sick when I get my period, they are long and heavy, and I have digestion problems and intense stomach pains for at least 1-2 weeks before and the week of. These symptoms disappeared for a while when I was on Apri (desogen) but after a few months, they came back, and on top of it, I became severely depressed and had such bad stomach pains, I went to the emergency room (and you pretty much have to drag me to hospitals).
This last period was so bad though that I finally decided to take the sample pack of Loestrin that my doctor gave me a month or two ago. Just a day after I started taking it, my period ended and the pain and bloating was gone. This is day 6 and I'm fine so far. On Ortho Tri-Cyclen (my first pill) I had bad side effects the first few days and gained ten pounds in two weeks.
I'm glad these forums exist, because they helped me realize that all of the depression (including suicidal thoughts), stomach pain, hair loss, etc. etc. were side effects of desogen. All of those things that contributed to the worst summer of my life disappeared as soon as I stopped taking it.
On the other hand, I have to point out that there is no "good" pill or "bad" pill. The side effects will be different for everyone. Some women need more estrogen, some need less. Some need fluctuating amounts of hormones and some need the same dosage all month. Unfortunately the only way to figure out what is right for you is to try them, note your reactions, and research the differences between pills. I realized quickly that I needed a low, stable dose of estrogen, which led me to try Loestrin. Not saying things can't go wrong from here, but now I am aware that if I fall into some depression, anxiety, weight gain, or other weird side effects, it *may* be caused by the pill I'm taking.
Is the pill worth it? Again, answers will vary depending on your lifestyle. Are your periods manageable or do they cause you not to be able to get out of bed in the morning? Are they consistent or are you praying you're no pregnant every month? Are condoms working for you or aren't they, and is the 2% chance of still becoming pregnant worth the risk?
While I've had bad experiences with some pills, I'm just grateful for this BC option in general. Until they figure out how to make birth control pills for men (pshh.. that'll be the day) then it's up to us to research and maek the best decisions for ourselves.

I took cipro 500 mg just this past thurs Sept 25/2008 only 3 pills. One thurs lunchtime, one that evening and then another fri lunchtime. By Friday morning I was starting to experience a sore throat and flu like pains. When it came to that evening my throat had red really red blisters and swollen glands. I didn't take that pill friday night. I stayed up all that night and at 4 am realized my sore throat and swelling had subsided. I called my pharmacy Sat. morning and told them what I had experienced. They said I did the right thing. I then had to contact my doctor to get another RX for my kidney infection. I have since had pain that hasn't went away. I have had a ultrasound on sept 9 and bloodwork on Oct 1 and a CT scan. All tests were ok. I was told just now on the phone to finish the new antibiotic and then 48 hrs later get another urine culture. I had to be given pain relief patches from the doctor.

I had the Mirena for almost 7 years. I have to say I really liked the convenience of not having to worry about birth control or my period. I had very minimal side effects of course the cramping when the device was first put in and the first time I got it, the string was a little too long so I could feel it, but I went back in & the nurse cut it and I never really felt if after that. When I had the device taken out, it was painful, but it was because it had gone in too far. I really liked the Mirena I kind of regret taking it out. The reason I took it out was because I wanted something more permanent and I was having trouble with my skin breaking out and I was being told that hormones where causing my breakouts. So I am now on a non hormonal birth control which is permanent (Essure) but I have to deal with period and cramps again, and my face is breaking out a lot worse...I guess like with other birth controls everyone reacts differently. Before the Mirena I used the Depo shot for a couple of years until my period became irregular and then I stopped birth control for awhile and it took me about a year to become pregnant with my son. Before Depo I tried pills (Ortho-Evra or something like that) my skin cleared up but I gained about 15 pounds in just one month...so I guess it's a trial and error process which is unfortunate for those of you experience severe side effects...too bad there is not some kind of test a person could take to determine which birth control would be better suited for their body

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for not even a month before I had problems. bled, literally, 14 days straight before I stopped taking it. My OB-GYN prescribed Loestrin 24 Fe, and for the first few months it was okay. I am now on my last day of my 6 month on it and I cannot even handle it. My period comes twice a month, or so it seems with spotting. I do NOT get my period when I take the brown pills, as I supposed to. I feel moody, sick, tired yet I cannot sleep, I go to the bathroom several times a day, I throw up, feel short of breath, I get headaches, TERRIBLE stomach pains and I don't feel like going to work or school ever. It's hell. Maybe my body is not right for birth control, but I am DONE with this pill. It's been HELL.
