I thought I was going crazy. I have pretty much the same problems as everybody else. The pain that shoots down my legs that sometimes make it hard to walk. I now have really bad back pain that I first chalked up to a bad mattress but now I'm not so sure. I have always had migraines but I now have SUPER MIGRAINES!! I have about 4 or 5 a week that leave me in so much pain I can hardly stand it and no amount of drugs work to ease the pain. I now have to see a neurologist for the migraines because my PCP does'n know what else to do for me. Nobody including my OBGYN told me that if you already get migraines that this might make them worse and maybe I shouldn't use it. I'm on the verge of being alone because of my massive wild mood swings. I feel more depressed than ever and can't lift the black cloud that I feel is always around me. I have no energy or sex drive and my 2 kids want to live with grandma because mommy is CRAZY!! I think it is time to have this taken out and hope my life returns to normal.

Heavy chest, find it hard to breath, palpatations, weight gain around my stomach and hips (I've never had a problem with putting on weight prior to having the coil fitted) mood swings, very, very tender and sore breasts. Lack of Sex drive or being attracted to the opposite sex...

i have had mirena for about 8 mnths and im ready to get it out...its the worst thing ever! i am only 18 yrs old so i was kinda worried about getting it(but my Dr kept telling me its the most effective birth control out there) and not to mention it was about 4 mnths after i had my daughter and I talked to a nurse and she told me that it was probably put in to early..now i suffer with chest pains, depression, headaches, backaches, very bad mood swings, really horrible periods, weight gain, and the worst smell down there.I called the DR that put mirena in for me and they told me i would have to pay almost $300 and that they most likely wont remove it.i dont know what else to do...besides deal with it.

Thank You!!! I'm not the only one! I had the Mirena inserted in 2005,removed in Sept 2008. Painful cramping immediatly that continued at odd times throughout time I had it. Bleeding for the first 4 months. Back Pain followed and landed me in the ER. At the ER I was told that I had blood in my urine. Antibiotics had no effect. Back pain continues today but is markedly less. Major mood swings leading to depression. Took Zolft at increasing doses with no effect. Never been prone to any of these before. Rages would come on over the littlest things. Extreme anxity attacks leading into panic that left me completly irrational. Almost lost my husband and kids due to mood swings. Joint pain came then in my lower back and shoulders and wrists. Saw DR, no reason ever found. Lumps showed up in my breasts that would swell and receed with my monthly cycle. Extreme sensitivity during sex with bleeding and cramping after. Cysts on my face and large acne bumps on my back that were so painful to the touch i could not even wear a bra. These spots took weeks to go away. Headaches that left me sick and weak on the couch seeing spots. Dr's insisted these symptoms were not related to my birth control.I had tons of fatique but chalked that up to the depression. I also started having alot of trouble with dryness in all of my mucus membranes. Even my eyes hurt. Over and over saw many dr's never could find what was wrong. This birth control nearly ruined my life and cost me three important years with my kids that i should have been at the top of my game. I have girlfriends who have received the mirena with almost exactly the same progression as me. I feel deceived by the listings in the information pamplets I received. I expected bleeding and slighter periods but never did they list these symptoms. I even looked at their website before I received it and they are not listed there either. I even had an argument with my gyno about having it removed because he knew of none of these side effects. I have seen a significant change since the removal. Mood swings down, energy back up. Kids say I'm like a whole new mom. To those ladies interested..contact Kris J Balekian in Texas to find out information about a class action law suit being filed.1(214)828-2800. Don't let anyone else be hurt by this product. Who knows how long this is going to negativly affect our bodies?

I have been feeling most of these symtoms for a while but thought it was just in my head or that I was going through early menopause but I am only 38.
Immediately I gained weight in my stomach area which made me mad but I dealt with it. I have have really long periods where I used to have a 3 day period. Now I have anxiety and mood swings where I just feel like being mean. I hate how I am to my husband, mom and kids. I feel like I can't concentrate and I can't remember a conversation that I had 2 days ago. I really feel like I was deceived of all these bad side effects. I just called to have this bitch removed and the nurse said she has never heard of any bad side effects. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones. I also excercise and diet constantly and can't seem to lose the extra weight I put on. It's so frustrating when I try so hard. Now I am a little nervous about getting it taken out. I plan on taking a xanex b.c it hurt so bad when I had it put in! I also am a little nervous about what birth control to use next. I don't want to deal with hormones again. It's not worth it. ALso the sex drive is very low for me. I really wish I would have seen this blog ahead of time. I would NEVER of had the mirena inserted and I wouldn't have wasted a year and a half of my life on being miserable!! I'm getting this removed 9am on Friday!!

I am soooo happy to have my IUD removed ... backpain is gone and sex is enjoyable again. As for the anxiety and depression, I had to increase the dose of meds I was already taking for depression but have now gone back to the regular dose. Those of you out there may want to consider an antidepressant to help tackle the mood swings caused by Mirena. However, I am still struggling with the 40 lbs I gained and just gained 4 more (ARGH!) ... I know my body is out of whack now since I am not taking hormones anymore, but I still have sugar cravings and snack attacks all day - HELP! anyone able to get their weight off after Mirena???? how do you do it?

I've been reading ALL the reviews on this website regarding Femcon FE and to be honest I haven't gained any weight, my mood swings are no crazier than usual, and I definitely haven't felt any sickness...but what I have felt, after only taking the pills for a Fin' week!!....is breakthrough bleeding! I can't believe this crap, I'm bleeding and my period isn't due for about 3 more weeks!! And I'm not talking a light little spot here and there, I am freakin' bleeding like my period is here! I've been off and on bc pills since I was 19 years old, I'm now 27...there are WAAAYY too many pills out there for me to stick with this sucker! I'm done!! Good luck ladies

IT IS GOOD TO KNOW I'M NOT ALONE, LIKE ALL OF YOU I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY AND SO DID EVERYONE AROUND ME. I'VE HAD MY IUC SINCE JUNE 3, 2008 AND I'M GETTING IT REMOVED IN 2 DAYS, AFTER SEEING THIS SITE. I GOT ON THIS SITE LAST NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE MOODS SWINGS AND DISCOVERED ALL MY OTHER PROBLEMS THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT WERE EVEN LINKED TO ONE THING LET ALONE MIRENA WERE THE SAME PROBLEMS I READ OVER AND OVER ON THIS SITE PLUS A FEW THAT WEREN'T ON HERE. I'VE BEEN HAVING PAINS IN MY FINGERS, TOES, AND BREASTS LIKE I'M BEING JABBED WITH NEEDLES, JOINT PAIN SO BAD I WOULD FREEZE UP, NAUSEA, FELT LIKE I WAS PREG. TOOK 3 TESTS ALL NEG., HEADACHES, SINUS TROUBLE, NERVOUSNESS SO BAD I FELT LIKE I WAS SHAKING ON THE INSIDE OUT, PELVIC PAIN, BACK PAIN, ITCHY SKIN AND MY SCALP ITCHES SO BAD I'VE HAD MY HUSBAND CHECK ME FOR LICE SEVERAL TIMES, IT'S HARD TO BREATH AT TIMES, HAIR LOSS, PAIN DURING SEX, AND NO DESIRE FOR SEX AT ALL. THE MOOD SWINGS ARE THE WORSE, I WAKE UP P-ED OFF BEFORE I EVEN OPEN MY EYES, I HAVE NO PATIENCE AT ALL, I DON'T CARE TO TALK TO ANYONE, I TREAT MY HUSBAND LIKE I HATE HIM. I HAVE A 17 MONTH OLD AND A 4 MONTH OLD THAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE FOR 15 YRS., 10 YRS. OF NOTHING AND 7 MISCARRIAGES AND EVER SINCE I GOT MARENA I HAVE FOUND IT HARDER AND HARDER TO DEAL WITH THEM. BEFORE I GOT THE IUC MY YOUNGEST ONE CRIED ALMOST 24/7 AND I HAD NO PROBLEM DEALING WITH IT NOW SHE HARDLY EVER CRIES AND I GET FRUSTRATED THE MOMENT SHE STARTS. I HATE FEELING THIS WAY, I FEEL LIKE A TERRIBLE MOTHER, WIFE, DAUGHTER, AND FRIEND. I CAN'T WAITE TO HAVE IT REMOVED.

I am so glad I found this site, I have been on a emotional roller coaster. The insertion was the worst experience I have ever had and I had two c-sections! Right from the beginning I noticed I would have bad PMS symptoms, but after I stopped breastfeeding they got worse. I have been so depressed, I cry a lot and I don't want to be around anyone, I just want to stay home with my family all the time and normally we would be out having a good time. I have bad cramps and I have no energy, I use to workout 5x a week for a hour, but now it takes a lot just for me to go for a walk. I gained 12 pounds!! And my mood swings are out of control. I just talked to my mother and was telling her that something is not right with me, I don't feel myself, I told her I thought I was going crazy. She told me why don't you look up side effects of the IUD, because I didn't know what else to do, so I found this site and thank you all! I have a appointment tomorrow morning to get this thing out. Never again and I would tell anyone not to get the mirena.

Have been trying to look into some sites regarding lisinopril and aggressiveness/mood swings. My husband has been on 10mg lisinopril for the past year and a half with great effect. One of the nice side effects was it seemed to reduce his aggression/anxiety quite a bit. I recently started to get the drug through mail order instead of my pharmacy...whoa, this guy has been like I have not seen him in a long time...from hating everyone to life is great....

My question is can there be a significant difference in the generics of this drug that it would have different effects on the same person??

First off, I haven't taken Yasmin. However, if you're bloating with stomach pain or back pain, that's the side effect called angioedema, an allergic reaction. My advice is stop the drug. They screw with your hormones. Relief from angioedema can be found from an herb called Marshmallow (don't buy a big bag of marshmallows, not the same thing). I can't tell you this is a permanent fix, but it will ease the bodies immune reaction (the intestinal swelling, possible internal hives that is happening inside). As for those horrible mood swings and headaches, nature has an answer for that too, research GLA, available in evening primrose, borage oil and blackcurrant oil. I've taken borage oil for a month and the biggest surprise is after years and years of horrific headaches, no headache. For those of you on the pill to control acne, nature has a remedy for you too. The B-vitamin called Pantothenic Acid (500mg day) takes a month or two to work, but believe me when I say it was the only thing that did. No lotions could touch the results that brought me. One final piece of information for all women to research. The thyroid is a major player in hormones and immune health. Drugs screw it up. Don't bother with thyroid tests, they are not reliable. A simple $3.50 bottle of "tincture of iodine" purchased at Walgreens will tell you if you are deficient. Paint a 2x2 patch on your arm, if it's gone in under 24 hours you're deficient, if it's gone in under 10 hours you're severely deficient. 80% of people are iodine deficient, run a search for the "history of iodine" and you'll be surprised. I know I was. If you are deficient search for information on Prolamine Iodine and Iodoral and decide what you might want to try. This is just information to help women find out if something is deficient and will help them rather than rely on a drug that may do more harm than good. If it helps one person, it was worth posting.

I am so glad that I have found other women with the same side effects. I really thought i was going crazy. I became depressed, severe anxiety, mood swings, crying, really crazy thoughts my husband was gonna cheat, I just had a baby 8 weeks before and I wasn't sure if it was PPD or what! I felt fine though until a week after I got mirena. I am on meds now and I thought all of these side effects was from them, even though I had taken them in the past with no problems. I would suggest to all women who are the least bit sensitive to meds, have any history with anxiety or depression NOT to get mirena. The doctors say that my side effects aren't from it but I was fine until this. I was happy with my new baby and after I got it was so tired and mentally gone I couldn't take it. I have had headaches with loss of vision, I had a history of migraines four years ago....now there back. I have had panic attacks, yell at my family for little things, dry patches on my scalp, pain during sex and extreme bloating and weight gain. I can't wait to get it out!!! Good luck to you all!

All I can say is HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I have had Mirena in for almost 16 months and let me tell you how RELIEVED I was to come across this web page! I have had TERRIBLE cramping, back pain, mental block, NO SEX DRIVE AT ALL, Pain during and after sex, indescribable mood swings, and can we say MENTAL BLOCK!!!!! It sounds crazy but I used to be able to handle daily stress with three children, my husband and our Business! Now I can go from a good mood to crying over MINOR things and we won't even talk about the major things (can we say mental ward!). I get headaches that put me down on the couch! I get lightheaded, heart races, and fell angry over nothing! I just thank GOD my husband is who he is because I have totally failed at my duties as a wife and as a parent when it comes to patience and understanding!!!! If I had to put a simple description on it I would say "It’s like being Pregnant 24/7!" I have to drive to accomplish things and I FEEL USELESS!!!!!!!! So obviously I also suffer from depression! I thought I was going out of my mind and now I am crying as I write because not only have I suffered through all this but it pisses me off to think how it’s effected my children and my husband! It’s coming out!!!!!!!ASAP

I am on the third pack of Femcon, switched from Ortho Tri-Cyclen because my periods were too long. I can't say I have any major side effects, no depression, no wackiness etc., One that I do have is breast tenderness, my boobs blew up like balloons and I do have major skin/chin problems that no dermatologist can help me with for the last few weeks. I couldn't figure it out what it was from but I think it might be from the pill. Never had any skin problems, acne and all of the sudden my chin breaks out badly, not pimples more like under the skin red bumps. Anyone with the similar problem???? HELP.

Like many of you, I thought that the Mirena was going to be GREAT! My doctor had NOTHING negative to say about it! I have had my mirena in now for almost 2yrs. I just have to say, the weight gain is enough to depress anyone, I have even been on the slim fast diet & ate lean cuisine meals with it and I DIDN'T lose not one pound!! I am bigger now than what I was at 9 months preg.!! After I had my son, I had lost all my baby weight, all but about 3-5 odd pounds, but after I got the mirena put in, its been nothing but weight gain!!! It just keeps coming on!! I am ashamed of my weight! I also get horrible migraines, headaches, have depression for no apparent reason, really weird mood swings, I also used to get a pimple from time to time--NOT anymore, I have acne constantly and have even bought the Proactive kit and have had very little results, I feel like I am 82yrs old instead of 28!!! Haha, you want to talk about a sex drive, I no longer even have one!!! And when I do have sex, it hurts if my husband goes near my cervix, and lets not talk about the after sex pain, never mind, lets talk about it, its HORRIBLE! It feels like I am having contractions, it hurts so bad that get doubled over in pain, end up in fetal position for about 1-2 HOURS and even the following day I hurt & bleed!! And should I go on about my newly acquired MUSTACHE!!!! Oh yes. I have facial hair now as well!!! So, to any of you girls/woman who are considering getting the MIRENA---THINK HARD ABOUT IT!! Seriously!! My experience with it has been horrible! I will NEVER have them replace it when it comes time, in fact, I am opting to having mine taken OUT!!!!

I started Femcon 6 months ago after being dissatisfied with Loestrin 24 Fe. This pill has both pros and cons. My periods are lighter now (my reason for starting BC pills was because of heavy and painful periods). There is less cramping with Femcon as well but my periods lasts even longer now than before starting the pill. Last month I bleed for 16 days straight! Since this was the only time I bled for so long I decided to give the pill a few more months. I actually like the fact that since starting this pill my acne has cleared up completely and my mood is much better than before starting the pill (No mood swings around the time of period!) Another con though is that my sex drive as decreased and vaginal mucous has this weird thickness to it and it makes sex kind of uncomfortable! I never had such problems prior to starting Femcon Fe. I may be searching for a different pill or other options soon.

I love Quasense. I have been on it for about a year and a half. For the first year, I took it for the 3 month, would have a very short period for the placebo week and I had no breakthrough bleeding. My gynecologist told me I could skip the placebo week and start the new pack to avoid having a period at all. Every once in a while I will have spotting when I start the next pack after not taking the placebo, but its very light. Other than that, I have not gained any weight, my appetite is the same, I don't have nausea. I don't have any cramping, I don't have mood swings, it improved my acne. Other birth controls I have taken in the past has made me gain weight, or given my acne or made me nausea. I love this stuff.

I have been on Loestrin 24 for over a year now and I have to say that it is working really well for me. I have extremely light periods (esp. compared to the ones I was having before), predictable periods, and no mood swings. i have had breakthrough bleeding 2 of the months I've been on this pill. The only thing I've noticed is it is extremely hard for me to lose weight. Now, I only need to lose like 10 pounds, but I was running everyday and eating healthy for about 3 months and did not lose a pound of weight. I don't know if it was due to the pill, but in the past it has been fairly easy for me to lose,

I just wanna cry.I had mine put in on April 9th 2008. I thought for sure I was crazy and I was making a big deal out of nothing. I have it all the depression, lethargy, extreme irritability, mood swings, cramping, back pain, stabbing pain in my abdomen, bloating, abnormal and irregular bleeding, headaches, nausea, dizziness, lack of motivation, reduced interest in sex, continuous yeast infections, sore breasts, weight gain, itchy flaky oily scalp, joint pain, continuous gotta go feeling, and I so could go on.......... I just wanna give up. I have 4 children and can't afford anymore. I can't deal with the way I feel all the time. I want to get it removed but I don't want to end up pregnant and I'm just at a loss I don't know what to do.

Mirena....pills..depo...ALL VERY SCARY!!Like someone else said in this website....makes sense- "can't have our cake and eat it too" I had the Mirena inserted in me about a year ago and I have back, shoulder and neck pain ALL THE TIME!
Also very sharp shooting pains.......not all the time but very painful, like needles. I feel depressed all the time when I KNOW I have no reason to be and horrible mood swings. I did also notice those weird acne looking bumps on my forehead and very dry skin which I've never had in my life! I am getting this thing removed ASAP! Thank you ladies!!

l will let it be known that I'm a healthy 27 year old..very active, never suffered with depression, never had acne, no headaches, never had mood swings (unless someone was pissed me off :) ) NADA...just the 7 day periods with heavy bleeding the first couple days..no cramps though. With that being said.....I have been on Femcon for 1 month now..I'm actually finishing my first pack..i have 2 more pills to go. I can honestly say this pill is NO GOOD for me!! If anyone already suffers from any of the things i've listed above..DON'T TAKE THIS PILL!! The first week on the pill was great..no problems. Exactly on day 10 of the pill..I had break thru bleeding that lasted the rest of the month. It was the nasty brown kind with an occasional red. I started to notice that EVERYDAY around 4:45pm I would become so furious over nothing..i mean NOTHING..go in my room slam the door shut..then turn around and cry because I knew I had nothing to be mad at. I became very depressed. My skin starting breaking out, but just no only on my face..all over my body. Really gross. Im now taking the brown pills and I have really bad night sweats. Horrible. These pills also made me very constipated. My sex drive went down hill too. HOWEVER, the PRO to these pills are I haven't gained any weight, haven't lost any hair (that i know of) and my period is sooooo light...still about the 5-7 days, BUT the cramps are almost unbearable and last for 3 days. I'm whiching in 2 days to Loestrin24 FE. If anyone is experiencing similar symptoms and looking for a new pill, let me know. I will be more than willing to share my experience with Loestrin also.

I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 9 months. I went through a major depression last spring. I was diagnosed with MAJOR DEPRESSION and went on anti depressants and on sick leave from work. Now looking back it seems there could be a link with the birth control pill. Around the same time I started taking it, I started having such bad MOOD SWINGS, ANGER control problems, ANXIETY and fatigue. I was always getting angry at my boyfriend and picked fights. No more sex drive either. I spoke to my GP, to a psychiatrist and to my pharmacist. I asked them "should there be a link with the pill?". Each and everyone said "no", "highly unlikely". Nobody suggested I try stopping the pill BEFORE starting anti depressants. I got a second opinion from a other doctor. THIS is what he said to me:" you'll be very depressed if you get an unplanned pregnancy." the thing is ladies, they DON'T WANT YOU OFF THE PILL BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT UNPLANNED PREGNANCY. THEY DON'T WANT YOU OFF THE PILL BECAUSE IT PAYS A LOT MORE TO PUSH PILLS THAN TO RECOMMEND OTHER METHODS (pharmaceutical companies giv big incentives and gifts to doctors). THEY DON'T ENCOURAGE YOU TO LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
I'm going off the pill at the end of my pack and am giving myself a couple months to see if I feel better. then I am going off the anti depressants.

My boyfriend's mom who is an OBGYN gave me 12 samples of this pill (a year's worth) after I ran out of my Ortho Lo. So I said "Sweet! Free birth control!" Not so sweet.... I have been on this pill for only 2 months and I have experience a huge change in my personality. I feel like a zombie, I don't feel like myself at all! The most severe uncontrollable mood swings ever. I go from very happy and loving to a total train wreck! It's really sad... My boyfriend cannot handle me. I am usually always calm and mellow and this has made me feel like I am going insane. I have weird thoughts in my head, weird dreams, night sweats. I cry over anything petty! I do have lighter periods and they only last for 2 or 3 days but it is definitely not worth my mental health and happiness. It is the worst pill, I cannot discredit this pill enough! Avoid this at all costs, unless you want to be moody and depressed all the time.

I can't even type fast enough to describe how astonished (and relieved) I was to run across NUMEROUS web sites with women describing the same symptoms as have been perplexing me the past few weeks. I had the marina iud inserted a little over a month ago and the past couple of weeks I"ve noticed such a dramatic change in myself, but couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Depression, lethargy, extreme irritability, mood swings, cramping, back pain, swelling in my abdomen, abnormal and irregular bleeding, headaches, nausea, dizziness, lack of motivation, reduced interest in sex...these just top the list. I thought maybe I was pregnant again, but knowing that it wasn't possible when you haven't had sex because I've either been bleeding, in pain from cramping, irritable, or just couldn't get "excited". These are all things that I've never experienced before and I cannot place blame to post partum depression because I had 6 weeks post partum that I felt "normal"....energized, happy, motivated, patient...all the things that are "normal" to me. I wish I had done further research about iud placement before I decided to go with this form of birth control, but the pamphlet made it sound so dreamy and my doctor swore by the thing. Before this thing does any permanent damage to my body, or my relationships; I'm having it removed. Pregnancy is a better option for me at this point (at least without the iud I wouldn't be so frustrated with my children!) I couldn't imagine dealing with these symptoms for years. I've read of women even being driven to attempted suicide and being on the verge of divorce. NOT ME....I knew from the beginning I had a bad feeling about getting the iud....and I wish I had listened to my intuition!

I've had Mirena for nearly two and a half years now. About 6 weeks after I got it in I had to take a pregnancy test because I was dizzy, nauseous, bloated, and had sore breasts. I was not pregnant. But I've had a repeat experience every few months since then. Sometimes I feel so sick and tired that I can't do anything but lie on the sofa. After I stopped nursing I got bad pregnancy symptoms and cramps so horrible I thought my IUD had punctured something. Currently I feel sick to my stomach, and I've been getting headaches, and I'm tired and terribly thirsty all the time. I've read about others who had the same problem. I've also had nearly continuous yeast infections and vaginal irritation since I got it in. My libido has dropped incredibly and I'm always kind of dry during sex. I had problems with depression before getting the Mirena, but now I have anxiety on top of that. At the two-year mark I started getting nasty under-the-skin acne under my chin, and I've gained ten pounds since then. Some of that might have been my own fault, but I currently eat healthily and exercise 1 to 1 1/2 hours most days, and it's taken weeks for me to stop gaining, and I know I'm losing way slower than is natural. I put up with it this long because I haven't gained huge amounts of weight or had really bad mood swings, and I'm afraid of what might happen with other types of birth control, but I am sick of being sick all the time. I'm getting this thing out!
