After taking a "leave of Absence" from this site, I see that Singulair is still up and thriving. I still see ads for it on TV, over and over again. They haven't been altered at all. Makes me sick. I wish there was away to get to other people whose children have died by suicide and investigate as to whether or not they were ever on singulair. Keep fighting. We'll get there! Kate Kendle

I was on simcor, which is heavy dose of niacin plus simvastatin. Was taking simvastatin alon and i was fine.
my lipids and trygllicerides were very high so put me on this medication''
I'm sure its the niacin that is the culprit. sever itching on back and inner arms.
Was very red and hot to the touch.
I am now off of it for a week. Continue to have the itching and rash.
It has to be a reaction to the niacin, as that is when it started, I refuse to live with this, Will not take again.

I have a 16 year old daughter that has always been extremely heathly, very out going, very happy and entergetic...until YAZ! My daughter was put on Yaz for irregular periods, it was nice that it helped her (very) mild acne. The first couple of months were fine, but then she started having a lot of symptoms...hair falling out, heart palpatations, bloating, depression, anger, crying, down mood all the time, I have rarely seen her smile in months, leg/joint pain, anxiety/nervousness, I can see her shake a lot, wanting to be by herself (which is totally not like her at all.) This medicine has helped her acne and period cramps, but totally destroyed her personality and her happiness! Is it worth the price...absoluety NOT! I AM TAKING MY DAUGHTER OFF YAZ TODAY!!! Honestly, I do fear what this medicine could do to her life if she is not taken off of it ASAP. How sad this medication is even available, much less being prescribed to 16 year olds! I only wish I would have known about this before my daughter took this evil pill! I am so sorry for those of you that have gone through all of this as well.

I've been on Topamax for a year and a half now. I started with 50 mg. and am now up to 100 mg. I did have the usual side effects of the tingly fingers, feet and arms the first six weeks and then that went away. Food and soft drinks tasted funny for a while, but that too went back to normal. I did lose 15 pounds and I didn't really have it to lose in the first place, so I upped my workouts with weights to compensate. My migraines have gone from five a week to one, so it's helped me BIG time being on this medication. My eyesight, however, has suffered. I used to have 20/20 vision. I now need reading glasses. I'm sure it's because of this medication, but to be honest, I'll take the glasses over being in that severe pain five times a week.

I am actually very relieved and excited to see that there is a connection between erythromycin and depression. I had taken erythromycin for years for acne. I found a strange correlation between taking the drug and feeling depressed. I asked both my doctor and pharmacist about this, and they both responded as if I were both crazy and stupid. "Of course not," was the reply. So I continued to take it.
I began taking it again about a week ago, and have found that I've been slipping into a very dark depressive state. This time I am very aware of what is going on around me, since I stopped taking my anti-depression medication last February (under the care of a physician and a psychiatrist) I am noting the same 'darkness' that I felt in previous times with erythromycin. A general 'nothing matters, might as well die' sort of attitude, as well as irritability and a strong desire to isolate. I started researching this morning on the internet, and I have found several links now. There have been studies that have shown a direct correlation between erythromycin use and depression.
Okay, now, here's the kicker: the erythromycin I've been taking is topical. It's a 2% solution, suspended in alcohol. I've been slathering it on my face three or four times a day. Apparently it doesn't matter if it is absorbed through the skin or through the stomach/intestines. Erythromycin causes depression in me. I don't care what my face looks like. I'm going to stop taking it.

This site is great! I developed a cold 2 months ago that turned into this severe bout of sore throat and bronchitis symptoms. I do have allergies and take otc meds. Because I was having such trouble breathing my dr gave me 2 weeks worth of singulair. I'm also on several other meds to try and clear up this bronchitis, but the singulair is the only "new" med, as I have taken the other meds in the past. I noticed last week that I was breaking out in hives. Itching all over and especially on the left side of my face. At first I just thought I'm falling apart, but then I began wondering if it could be the singulair. Thanks to the comments here I'm stopping singulair. Doctors, as well intentioned as they are, really don't know about most of the meds they prescribe. And it is irresponsible for any of them to just say "no it's not the medication", when they really don't know. That's why the internet is such a great tool!

I'm officially blown away. My 10 yr old son has been on Advair for a couple of months and strange things have started happening, so I thought I would surf the internet. HOLY $#!^!!!! I am now convinced that Advair is the cause for his headaches, fatigue, sleeplessness, and now the strange sores on his mouth and nose that NO 10 year old should have to be dealing with!!!!! How can the medical community continue to advocate the use of a medication that causes such significant side effects???? Oh wait, don't answer that...I really don't want to know the real answer do I?? Right now I'm just angry....

I was prescribedSMZ/TWP DS 800-160 for a urinary infection. I have taken this medication before with no ill effects, but this time my hands itch all the time and I have a red, itchy rash on my back and stomach. I finished the prescription today, ao hope it goes away and so far the UTI I had is better. At least I don't have as much pain, but it required two prescriptions before is worked. I have taken this before with no noticable effects. Is this serious?

I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. It has been pure heck to say the least! After a few hours of taking the first tablet (500 mg), I began to feel really crummy. By that, I mean, bodyaches, sleeplessness, stomachache, nausea, an overwhelming feeling of unwellness. By the second day, my fever broke, which was good. But, with each passing day, I began to feel worse and worse. It was as if the medication was building up in my system. By the fourth day, I could barely function! I was sicker and sicker with each passing day. The only time I felt even somewhat human again was the 23rd hour BEFORE it was time to take the next dose! Within an hour of taking the next dose, I was sick again. By the fifth day, I could no longer tolerate this medication. I felt as if it were the worst case of the flu I'd ever had. I felt so bad that I felt as if I were going to die. I can't explain it, but my husband had to make the call to the doctor's office because I barely had the strength to talk. I am convinced that had I stayed on this medication, it could have killed me! It has been 3 days since I stopped taking it and am still dealing with severe leg weakness. I may be calling the dr again tomorrow. This medication is pure poison as far as I'm concerned! Very, very dangerous.

I have already posted my side effects to Garasil previously...I have severe alopecia. This started over a year ago and is getting progressively worse. I just wanted to take a minute to urge all of you to do TWO things.
1) Submit your side effects to the FDA Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS); here's the link: https://secure.vaers.org/VaersDataEntryintro.htm
2) Call & report this to the MERCK National Service Center: 1-800-NSC MERCK (8am - 7pm ET)
Thank you for taking the time to do this, I know that it can be time consuming; but maybe we can prevent someone else from having the same miserable experience.

I had taken Toprol XL for years and thought I was doing fairly well. The side effects began to get worse with the absolute worse being that I woke a few times in the middle of the night with the room spinning out of control and sweating. The usual side effects I've now read such as weight gain, dizziness, dreams, shortness of breath, digestion not quite right, etc. had always been there, but I didn't quite recognize them realize until I came across this web site. Thank goodness I did. I have now been completely off Toprol XL for over a month and truly feel so much better (and normal). Even though for years I've watched my diet carefully and exercised faithfully, I would gain weight extremely easily and when I did go on a "diet", I would have to practically eat nothing in order to lose a few pounds. I'm so hoping now my metabolism will return to normal, and I can lose these extra pounds I want to lose. I realize everyone can't get off the medication, but if at all possible, P L E A S E consider doing so. This stuff is scarey!!

I have been off this medication since July 19 and yesterday, a rash began on my stomach again. A few days ago, I developed pain under my rib cage and a tingling feeling on my skin. That still persists. I have read that several people did have the rash return, so that makes me feel better, but what I would like to know is......did anybody take anything that helped get this drug out of their system quicker??? I am tired of feeling terrible.

I had always been 160 lbs since 8th grade, which was a fine weight for me bacause I'm tall and muscular. When I was 25 I gained 20 lbs over 3 months with no change in diet or activity. So I went to the dr because hypothyroidism is very prevelent in my family. The blood work showed I was borderline hypothyroid, so the dr didn't suggest starting any medication. So I started working out 4-5 times a week for at least 1-1 1/2 hours per day. I also got on phentermine to help jump start my diet. After doing this for 2 months, I had gained 5 lbs. Which is crazy because anytime I needed to lose weight, I had no problem dropping 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I was frustrated but ignored it for a while because I got pregnant shortly after that. During the pregnancy, my throid was checked again and was normal. I weighed 248 lbs the day I went in to give birth. 2 weeks later, I weighed 210lbs and a month after that I was 200lbs. Then I went back to work,(where I walk continuously all day) and I could not budge my weight below 200 lbs no matter what I did. So I went back to the dr and I was slightly hypothyroid again. I opted to go on generic Synthroid 25mcg. I then gained 37 lbs over 4-5 months. So I went to another dr. to get on phentermine. I started the phentermine and lost about 27 lbs. I have been off phentermine for a while, but have been working out vigorously working out and watching my diet and couldn't lose another pound. So, I thought the synthroid might be making it harder to lose weight. I stopped taking it and have lost about 10lbs in the last month. I think there is definitely a connection in synthroid and my inability to lose weight. But I still can't get below 200lbs and I still feel sluggish. I am only 28 and don't think I should attribute this to age. I can understand age causing weight gain of 5-10 lbs per year but not 155lbs in May '05 to 183lbs in Nov '05 then to 200lbs in Jul '07. Please give me any suggestions you might have. Diet, medication, activities???

My 14 year-old Daughter was prescribed YAZ for her acne. After the first 48 hours daughter began to have severe leg spasms, mood swings, anxiety attacks, numbness in hands and feet, heart palpitrations, and migraines so severe that she had to miss school for 1 entire week. At first I didn''t put it all together but by day 5 I took her off the pills and waited....the symptoms went away but did leave her with a 3-week period.
This is a bad, BAD medication. When I was a teen girl I was on tradtioinal b/c pills and I never, ever had any kind of reaction like this.
I contacted the FDA and filled out a complaint report.

I have been on Topamax for 2 months and it has been horrible. I started at 25mg at bedtime and worked up to 50mg at night and 25 in the morning. I wish I never took it at all. I have had numerous migraines with the medication except now my tongue goes numb every time. I can't remember anything and I am in a fog all the time. I had to take a trip to the emergency room for tachycardia that occurs every time I stand. It goes up from normal to 166bpm. The cardiologist insists the Topamax is causing orhtostatic hypotension. I stopped all of the Topamax on Monday and it is now Saturday and I still feel horrible. Migraines are horrible but being stuck on your couch all the time because your hr increases sharply and you feel like you are going to pass out is worse. My hands and feet tingle all the time. I feel out of breath and I have always been very active. I now feel anxious all the time (never like this before). I feel like I am not myself and I am going crazy. I do not trust myself because I do not feel like myself. Has anyone else had these symptoms? Do they eventually go away? The cardiologist can't guarantee that they will ever go away.

I have been reading all of these posts and have another question. I hope that someone can help. My daughter, 8 years old, has been on Singulair since she was 4. She is normally a very happy girl with a wonderful disposition. For the last year or so, she has been having trouble getting herself to sleep at night. She says that she hears things in her head such as ringing or "noises". A few hours before she knows it's bedtime, she cries and when we ask her why she's crying, she can't give us a reason. We initially thought that she was crying for no reason because she didn't want to go to sleep. I remember reading about the side effects of Singulair causing mood swings, etc., but her's are not violent mood swings. Just very emotional and has a hard time coming down from the "episode". I'm at a loss...I have not talked to her doctor yet about it, but have told her that we will make an appointment this week to discuss it with him. My husband suggested that maybe it sounded like she was having a panic attack or anxiety attack. I hate to label her as that at such a young age. My mind now goes back to the side effects of Singulair and maybe this is to blame. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Concerned Mom

I had mine inserted about two weeks ago. It was slightly uncomfortable. Not a big deal at all. A little bleeding and cramping. Haven't had sex yet due to horrible gas that I have had for two weeks. My husband is convinced that is how it works, because your husband won't touch you....he he he...
We will see.
I have had terrible anxiety issues in my past and I haven't had a problem with mood swings or panic attacks.
I am hoping this will work. I have three children and currently my husband is taking medication for lupus that can cause huge birth defects. So sick of condoms!!!1

I have had a wonderful experience with this medication. I have been on it for over 3 years at 75mg a day taken in the am. I have a few minor issues with going to the bathroom but by 9am I am feeling fine. I have been on many other depression meds and they all had terrible side effects, but with effexor I have had no issues. I am thankful to be on this medication and not so depressed all of the time. It also has helped with my GAD.

Since my last post I have decided to stop taking Yaz! The majority of the side effects have faded, but the emotional rollercoaster is still very much active! It is killing my relationship and making my life a living hell. My poor family must think I have lost my mind! I started taking this medication to help my PMDD and it has done nothing but make things worse for me and my family. I want to thank everyone for being so open and being so honest, this has helped me beyond belief. I wish everyone good health!

please everyone who is on lisinopril be warned!!!! my mother was on this medication for a month and began having hives. she went to the emergency room and they gave her antihistamines. a few days later she woke up with facial swelling and a sense of not being able to breath. she went back to the emergency room where she was treated as above. twenty minutes after discharge she began swelling and her throat closed. she suffered cardiac arrest due to lack of oxygen from the swelling in her face and throat.she was stabilized, but unfortunately did not survive this ordeal. please, everyone on this medication, if you experience hives, facial swelling, or lip swelling, see your doctor immediately and push to have medication switched!!!!!!!

I was prescribed a 10 day course of Doxycycline Hyclate for a strep infection six days ago. On the third day of my medication treatment, I experienced a feeling of exhaustion. On Day 5, the exhaustion became more severe with a little difficulty breathing and some "pin" like pain near my heart, while at work. I called my hospital and was advised to take an aspirin and to come into urgent care, as long as I deemed that it wasn't an emergency. After arriving at my hospital, I took an Xray, had blood drawn for multiple lab tests, hooked up to an EKG machine, and provided a urine sample. All of the test results thus far were negative. All of the specialists who I encountered while at the hospital conveyed to me that exhaustion isn't a side effect of this medication. After reading everyone else's postings about extreme fatigue being a side effect, I am convinced that it is indeed a side effect. I have got another four days to go on my medication therapy. I guess using my sick leave for the side effect isn't such a negative, as long as this medication cures my strep.

I've been using Yaz for about three months now, and towards the middle of the first month was when I began to experience a few mild side affects. I became irritable and emotional, and so far I've gained about 5 pounds, but I learned to control it by month two. Now I'm at the end of month three, and new symptoms have emerged. If I'm hungry, I feel nauseated and lethargic. When I eat, the nausea becomes worse, and I actually ended up vomiting recently because I felt so sick. I've been bleeding every day, and have had difficulty becoming aroused even when sexually excited. I definitely do NOT recommend this medication. As soon as possible, I plan on seeing a doctor and switching to a better one!
