Sitting here with heat on thigh fm severe muscle cramp. Had one earlier in hand. Have had many probs with hands lately; thought it was carpel tunnel but pain seems to be randon in hand and fingers. The muscle cramps are unbelievably severe; didn't know about the loss of Calcium and B - good to know. Was taking Levothyroxine .25 with seemingly no effects but when TSH was still over 4.0, MD changed to .50 Levoxyl. Have been on it a month and have had nausea, bowel disturbances; irritable eyes; bloating, depression (which MD is offsetting with antidepressant), and SEVERE muscle cramps in places you wouldn't expect... hands, neck when I yawn, things, stomach, waist... it's awful. After hearing everyone else, I'm weaning off and doing more research. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

I am so glad that I have found other women with the same side effects. I really thought i was going crazy. I became depressed, severe anxiety, mood swings, crying, really crazy thoughts my husband was gonna cheat, I just had a baby 8 weeks before and I wasn't sure if it was PPD or what! I felt fine though until a week after I got mirena. I am on meds now and I thought all of these side effects was from them, even though I had taken them in the past with no problems. I would suggest to all women who are the least bit sensitive to meds, have any history with anxiety or depression NOT to get mirena. The doctors say that my side effects aren't from it but I was fine until this. I was happy with my new baby and after I got it was so tired and mentally gone I couldn't take it. I have had headaches with loss of vision, I had a history of migraines four years ago....now there back. I have had panic attacks, yell at my family for little things, dry patches on my scalp, pain during sex and extreme bloating and weight gain. I can't wait to get it out!!! Good luck to you all!

All I can say is HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I have had Mirena in for almost 16 months and let me tell you how RELIEVED I was to come across this web page! I have had TERRIBLE cramping, back pain, mental block, NO SEX DRIVE AT ALL, Pain during and after sex, indescribable mood swings, and can we say MENTAL BLOCK!!!!! It sounds crazy but I used to be able to handle daily stress with three children, my husband and our Business! Now I can go from a good mood to crying over MINOR things and we won't even talk about the major things (can we say mental ward!). I get headaches that put me down on the couch! I get lightheaded, heart races, and fell angry over nothing! I just thank GOD my husband is who he is because I have totally failed at my duties as a wife and as a parent when it comes to patience and understanding!!!! If I had to put a simple description on it I would say "It’s like being Pregnant 24/7!" I have to drive to accomplish things and I FEEL USELESS!!!!!!!! So obviously I also suffer from depression! I thought I was going out of my mind and now I am crying as I write because not only have I suffered through all this but it pisses me off to think how it’s effected my children and my husband! It’s coming out!!!!!!!ASAP

I am on the third pack of Femcon, switched from Ortho Tri-Cyclen because my periods were too long. I can't say I have any major side effects, no depression, no wackiness etc., One that I do have is breast tenderness, my boobs blew up like balloons and I do have major skin/chin problems that no dermatologist can help me with for the last few weeks. I couldn't figure it out what it was from but I think it might be from the pill. Never had any skin problems, acne and all of the sudden my chin breaks out badly, not pimples more like under the skin red bumps. Anyone with the similar problem???? HELP.

I was prescribed simvistatin 20mgs a month ago. I have been off work unwell for three weeks now and have only just realized that it is this drug that is causing me all my problems. Poor sleep, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, brain fog ...bla ...bla... I thought i was going nuts until I googled simvistatin. I stopped taking it 3 days ago and I feel like I am gradually recovering. I just hope I haven't done any permanent damage.

My daughter was prescribed Singulair in the spring and it worked wonders.Since her allergies and asthma don't bother her in the summer I took her off for those few months.Since she has been back on the last few months I notice once and awhile an aggression/depression behavior.I thought immediately that it was Singulair causing this but it wasn't everyday it happened.I believe that activity, schedule, and even food in combination with this medicine that was cause this rare effect. It's no news to parents that all of these things can change a persons attitude and behavior.I also believe that Singulair may just make people more sensitive to their true self as my daughter has always been paranoid and has lacked self esteem.I think that it is trial and error as with any medicine.Try it and it may or may not work for you.Taking it off the market would be a disgrace as it has saved many lives.

Like many of you, I thought that the Mirena was going to be GREAT! My doctor had NOTHING negative to say about it! I have had my mirena in now for almost 2yrs. I just have to say, the weight gain is enough to depress anyone, I have even been on the slim fast diet & ate lean cuisine meals with it and I DIDN'T lose not one pound!! I am bigger now than what I was at 9 months preg.!! After I had my son, I had lost all my baby weight, all but about 3-5 odd pounds, but after I got the mirena put in, its been nothing but weight gain!!! It just keeps coming on!! I am ashamed of my weight! I also get horrible migraines, headaches, have depression for no apparent reason, really weird mood swings, I also used to get a pimple from time to time--NOT anymore, I have acne constantly and have even bought the Proactive kit and have had very little results, I feel like I am 82yrs old instead of 28!!! Haha, you want to talk about a sex drive, I no longer even have one!!! And when I do have sex, it hurts if my husband goes near my cervix, and lets not talk about the after sex pain, never mind, lets talk about it, its HORRIBLE! It feels like I am having contractions, it hurts so bad that get doubled over in pain, end up in fetal position for about 1-2 HOURS and even the following day I hurt & bleed!! And should I go on about my newly acquired MUSTACHE!!!! Oh yes. I have facial hair now as well!!! So, to any of you girls/woman who are considering getting the MIRENA---THINK HARD ABOUT IT!! Seriously!! My experience with it has been horrible! I will NEVER have them replace it when it comes time, in fact, I am opting to having mine taken OUT!!!!

Last Sunday I attended the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) walkathon in St. Paul, Mn. I was able to hand out hundreds of flyers to survivors of suicide and people in the mental health community. Of the hundreds of flyers that I handed out only two people had ever heard of the link between Singulair and these various side effects that we have all noticed. I received some wonderful responses and many people offered to make copies of the flyers and hand them out to everyone that they know. Several people worked in the mental health community and in pediatric offices and they were going to tell all of their coworkers about Singulair.
I also had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Paula Clayton. She is the National Medical Director for AFSP. She said that they are aware of the concerns with Singulair and their organization is going to Washington this spring to express concerns about Singulair and several other medications that are linked to depression and suicide. She also stated that if everyone could write letters to their local representatives that it would really help to raise awareness.

I had the mirena inserted in June 2007. It came highly recommended from a sexual health clinic, and they were keen for me to use it even though I have not had children. It was extremely painful during the first few months and I had a lot of spotting. As time progressed I became very depressed, irritable, I had frequent headaches, total loss of libido, nausea, some pain during intercourse and it has really taken a toll on my relationship with my boyfriend as well as other friendships. After doing some research online (and thank you to this website in particular) I had it removed 4 weeks ago. I feel a little better, but I think it will be a while before I feel myself again. In these last few weeks I have experienced dizziness, nausea, severe headaches and strong depression. I wish I had never had it inserted. Thank you to all the women who shared their stories and helped to convince me to get it removed. - Louise, 26

I had 2 surgeries at once last week and was prescribed Meprozine 1-2 capsules every 4-6 hours. The first 4 days I took 2 at a time and within 20 minutes my pain was gone, I felt relaxed and a little drowsy and was able to nap, which I needed for at least the first two days after my surgery. Twice in 4 days, one of my legs twitched and once my arm twitched. After the first 4 days, I would take only 1 as needed, usually in the evening after I has been up all day and was in a little pain. I had slight dizziness when I first stood up the first day only when I would get up to go to the bathroom. Other than that, I had no nausea, and I have to eat something before I take any medication, no stomach pains, no allergic reactions (I am allergic to medications with codeine in it), no depression, no emotional swings (in fact, if I wasn't sleeping, I was so relaxed that I was able communicate normally, laugh, make my normal jokes, etc.), I did not hallucinate or see things. I was also on an antibiotic, which my pharmacist said would make me very thirsty so I attributed my dry mouth to that. Last year, I was prescribed several different strong pain medications for severe chronic headaches and they did nothing. I would recommend Meprozine for short term relief for pain management. I do know someone who got addicted to Meprozine after taking it everyday for several months because a doctor kept prescribing it to her, so it is definitely only to be used for short term use. If I ever have to have surgery again, dental work, or need something for pain management, I will be asking my doctor for a one time prescription for Meprozine.

I just wanna cry.I had mine put in on April 9th 2008. I thought for sure I was crazy and I was making a big deal out of nothing. I have it all the depression, lethargy, extreme irritability, mood swings, cramping, back pain, stabbing pain in my abdomen, bloating, abnormal and irregular bleeding, headaches, nausea, dizziness, lack of motivation, reduced interest in sex, continuous yeast infections, sore breasts, weight gain, itchy flaky oily scalp, joint pain, continuous gotta go feeling, and I so could go on.......... I just wanna give up. I have 4 children and can't afford anymore. I can't deal with the way I feel all the time. I want to get it removed but I don't want to end up pregnant and I'm just at a loss I don't know what to do.

My husband (57 years old) started Lisinopril in March of 2007 for High Blood Pressure and he's never been the same. At first, we didn't connect the symptoms but now I am convinced this drug caused his problems. His symptoms include loss of memory, can't concentrate, can't retain anything, short tempered, depression. At times confusion or unable to grasp anything requiring multi-tasking. He had a loss of appetite where in lost 25 pounds in less than 6 months. He described months ago that "his head just doesn't feel right". When asked...do you have a headache...he'd reply.."I can't explain it...it just doesn't feel right. The depression has lead to another drug "Lexapro". This drug interferes with concentration too!
Prior to taking Lisinopril my husband was running his own business and working a full time job he's had for years. Within 6 months, our lives changed drastically. I know 2 other people experiencing the memory loss, can't concentrate, can't retain symptoms around the same age as my husband... all taking Lisinopril.

All of this has been weighing heavily on his mind because his mother has been diagnosed with Dementia/Alzeheimers at age 74. Guess what...she has been taking Lisinopril for years and years and has been treating for depression for years and years....any connection here? This drug has been around for many years and it seems like every elderly person is taking this for High Blood Pressure. Could this be a culprit to Dementia/Alzheimers? A reoccurring theme I see amongst all of these side effects is "depression".

Of course when we discussed these symptoms with his Doctor...we were pooh poohed with "I've never heard of these symptoms in 20 years of practicing". Well, he needs to do some research! My husband quit taking this drug on Sept 12th which takes 2-3 weeks to get out of your system. I noticed recently he didn't struggle at all at the ATM machine. I'm hoping this is the culprit as we are now in the process of getting a second opinion to determine if he may be in the early stages of Alzheimers. We pray that he is not! Get this drug off the market!!!

I just had Mirena implanted and it was not a pleasant experience. I have a high threshold for pain and delivered my children naturally and without medication. I wish I had been given a valium and prescription strength Motrain for this procedure. I passed out and was weak and dizzy the remainder of the morning.
I have read all the posted comments from everyone and am scared to death to wait and see which bizzare side effects will overcome me. I am a true believer that the medical professionals (doctors) are not keenly aware of the general public's documentation on side effects and in this case Mirena. I took the Chantrix (stop smoking drug) this summer and the worst side effects possible presented themselves to me. I quit the drug after 3 weeks of progressively worse symptoms such as nightmarish dreams, auditory hallucinations, depression and stomach aches.
I am going to have Mirena removed immediately -- Monday next week if possible -- because I do not want to experience anywhere near the degree of suffering the poor ladies have in these examples

l will let it be known that I'm a healthy 27 year old..very active, never suffered with depression, never had acne, no headaches, never had mood swings (unless someone was pissed me off :) ) NADA...just the 7 day periods with heavy bleeding the first couple days..no cramps though. With that being said.....I have been on Femcon for 1 month now..I'm actually finishing my first pack..i have 2 more pills to go. I can honestly say this pill is NO GOOD for me!! If anyone already suffers from any of the things i've listed above..DON'T TAKE THIS PILL!! The first week on the pill was great..no problems. Exactly on day 10 of the pill..I had break thru bleeding that lasted the rest of the month. It was the nasty brown kind with an occasional red. I started to notice that EVERYDAY around 4:45pm I would become so furious over nothing..i mean NOTHING..go in my room slam the door shut..then turn around and cry because I knew I had nothing to be mad at. I became very depressed. My skin starting breaking out, but just no only on my face..all over my body. Really gross. Im now taking the brown pills and I have really bad night sweats. Horrible. These pills also made me very constipated. My sex drive went down hill too. HOWEVER, the PRO to these pills are I haven't gained any weight, haven't lost any hair (that i know of) and my period is sooooo light...still about the 5-7 days, BUT the cramps are almost unbearable and last for 3 days. I'm whiching in 2 days to Loestrin24 FE. If anyone is experiencing similar symptoms and looking for a new pill, let me know. I will be more than willing to share my experience with Loestrin also.

I am taking Wellbutrin and it has helped my depression and desire for drugs every day. I have bad ringing in my ears all the time but I can deal with that compared to the good it has done.. The problem is I'm a engineer which requires a lot of concentration that I have lost since I've been on Wellbutrin. I also have memory loss. I can't remember peoples names 2 minutes after they told me. I am a support engineer so I have to tallk to many people every day as well as typing cause and solution. I find myself having to read everything I type over again because I leave out words and sometimes what I type makes no sense at all. Wellbutrin has helped me so much but I think I will have to stop or lose my job. What a choice. Before I started taking Wellbutrin I never felt like I was in tune with the world. Smoking pot worked for me but we all know what the long term effect of that is. Codine also made me feel like I fit in. So Wellbutrin has fixed all those needs and feelings but I just hate the loss of memory, concentration, and ringing in my ears.

I have been on Lisinopril for 3 days now, for slightly elevated BP. Doctor told me to take 20mgs, I split it in fourths, and have been only taking a fourth, and have had tingling in my hands and feet, chest pain, tiredness, severe anger and depression, I had the same reaction when I took Atenolol, (beta blocker), 12.5 mg a day for three months, Also I am going completely bald!! I know that was from the Atenolol, so this med, is just as bad, I'm not taking it anymore, I like my hair, health, happiness and sanity to much to compromise it another second, I also have suffered from depression for many years and have asthma, so I should have never been giving either one of these drugs! I will take Garlic, Omega supplements and see where it takes me, God Bless and lets try nature instead! P.S. I am a 41 yr old female. hope this helps.

I can't even type fast enough to describe how astonished (and relieved) I was to run across NUMEROUS web sites with women describing the same symptoms as have been perplexing me the past few weeks. I had the marina iud inserted a little over a month ago and the past couple of weeks I"ve noticed such a dramatic change in myself, but couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Depression, lethargy, extreme irritability, mood swings, cramping, back pain, swelling in my abdomen, abnormal and irregular bleeding, headaches, nausea, dizziness, lack of motivation, reduced interest in sex...these just top the list. I thought maybe I was pregnant again, but knowing that it wasn't possible when you haven't had sex because I've either been bleeding, in pain from cramping, irritable, or just couldn't get "excited". These are all things that I've never experienced before and I cannot place blame to post partum depression because I had 6 weeks post partum that I felt "normal"....energized, happy, motivated, patient...all the things that are "normal" to me. I wish I had done further research about iud placement before I decided to go with this form of birth control, but the pamphlet made it sound so dreamy and my doctor swore by the thing. Before this thing does any permanent damage to my body, or my relationships; I'm having it removed. Pregnancy is a better option for me at this point (at least without the iud I wouldn't be so frustrated with my children!) I couldn't imagine dealing with these symptoms for years. I've read of women even being driven to attempted suicide and being on the verge of divorce. NOT ME....I knew from the beginning I had a bad feeling about getting the iud....and I wish I had listened to my intuition!

First off, I want to thank everyone who has posted on this site. My heart goes out to all of the mothers/fathers who feel lied to by their physician, and to all of the young ladies, like myself, who chose to take this shot in order to protect myself and my partners. I have had two shots and WILL NOT receive my third.

I am a healthy 24-year-old woman who started my GARDASIL shots February 08'. The first shot, no problem. Second shot, wow. I felt like I was literally going to break. All of my joints, muscles hurt and felt very, very weak. I went to bed with a 102 fever, huge swollen glands, sore throat and cold sweats. I called my doctor and she said I "probably had the flu before I got the shot and I was just feeling my illness now.." she dubbed my issue an "coincidence". Well, I believed her because I wanted to. I didn't want to think I put myself in harms way, so I went on.

Well it's been 7 months and I can tell you my memory loss, muscle pain and bouts of depression have been a big issue. These are all things I have never dealt with in the past. Could it be GARDASIL, I'm not 100% sold that it is, but I am not throwing that idea out either.

I am really starting to struggle with the idea that we don't know the long term side effects yet.

Looks like we are all Lab Rats.

In seek of the truth,
L.

So far I haven't seen anything in regards to my symptoms with Yasmin.

After going the past two years and having only two periods, I was diagnosed with PCOS. My Gyno told me that the only way I would be able to have a period, and delay the harmful side effects of this disorder would be to go on Yasmin. I agree that my mood swings the 1st month were terrible. I almost punched my own mother in the face because I didn't like one of her jokes. That's not me. But that is something common with BC. They are hormones your body takes in to regulate your cycle. And because my body doesn't' regularly produce the hormones needed for menses, I expected mood swings. The catastrophic depression and PMS were the main reasons I stopped taking the pill years ago.

My problem is a bit different. I haven't gained weight. As a matter of fact, I think I've lost a bit. My problem is my skin. Before the pill, I had flawless skin. It was always really sensitive, but because I was cognizant of this fact, I took every preventative measure to ensure its healthy appearance. But now my skin in a mess. I have a rash spreading all over my body. My eyelids have a hard crushed rash of skin folding over, and my under-eyes are the same way. All across my face, I now have raised red patches of skin that burn, and the only change I've made to my daily care regimen is popping that little pill every night. The rash is now spreading to my shoulders and a bit on my legs.

Has anyone else developed skin problems, or could this all just be coincidental in my case?

I

First of all, some people are right.... some birth control pills are different for everyone.. and i have to totally agree with TOWN...right on the button!
I had some nausea in the beginning, but hell..I have been on every birth control pill, Iud, depo fat shot, and they all still made me bleed heavy and cramp.....My family are heavy bleeders big time...My insurance finally approved Loestrin for me and this is a blessing in disguise! I have no periods! I may have occasional lil, I mean lil, spotting every now an then, but it is worth it. Sex drive? You can't get horny? Think of something... And every birth control pill there are chances of depression in every one, read. I have a tubaligation so I am only on this pill for period purpose only, but I am staying on it.

I have been taking Femcon FE for almost 3 months and I am glad to say I am not going insane. Up until last night, when I read every posting on this site I truly thought I, whom never suffers from a moment of being irrational thought I would go and see a doctor. Almost every feeling of hatred, depression and irritability that I had been feeling of late (the last two months) was described exactly here. Whew. I saw a posting that one person believed that the pharmaceutical companies actually gave kickbacks to the physicians. Well, as a former member of the woman's health care facility here in my town, it is true. Nice dinners, bottles of this and that, new cars, vacations and so on... Ortho McNeil pharmacies (No, I don't work for them) is the ony company, that it seems to me, that can say that side effects are not the norm. Warner Chilcott, the makers of FemCon FE have many women up in arms over the Loestrin 24FE and FemCon side effects. I paid no mind to this but the more and more I am exepriencing these effects and are hearing of them the more and more I am believing that perhaps these brands should come come with a warning on the side of the box on a big white label that says,"May ruin all of your relationships, may cause you to unnecessarily check yourself into a nuthouse and may cause severe mind and mood altering effects. Please buy stock in a sanitary napkin company before using."
Now the first month was great but for the past 2 1/2 months I have been bleeding every eight days. Now this is not "normal bleeding" but clots. So horrible. Oh, were you thinking of having a lovely romantic dinner? Muhahah, with Warner Chilcott FemCon Your breath will be great but pregnancy will never come between you and... oh wait, you are going to have your period forever...

After reading these reviews i feel so relieved!!!
I have finally found what has been destroying my life these past few months.
Yasmin is surely the cause for my uncontrollable emotional outbursts, anxiety, depression, phases of feeling happy one minute & then dramatically sad and low the next, having a very very short temper- especially with my boyfriend and with relationship issues.. crying almost everyday , sometimes for no proper reason!!
all these symptoms contributing to my lack of interest in many things i used to love, for example exercising, socializing.. etc..
YASMIN has ruined my year!!!
I'm going off it tomorrow once and for all!!!

I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PILL! This pill is the reason why I will never use birth control again! It altered my life completely, and changed ME for the worse. I had the WORSE ACNE on this pill! It is supposed to clear up minimal acne (which I barely ever had pimples) but it gave me so many! My face is still recovering from the acne, months of being off the pill! I suffered depression, migranes, cramps, bloating, feeling more hungry, and I was always MOODY. I could be in the best mood then start crying because of the stupidest, most little thing. My boyfriend could not tolerate me on this pill, it jepordized our relationship! I was so depressed and upset on this pill that I cried all the time! I'm normally a happy person 100% of the time, but this pill caused me to be a complete bitch! I only took two packs of this pill and it changed my life drastically. Never take this pill!!

I too am one of the many women who wishes that she would have seen this site before getting the Mirena! I thought that I was dealing with some sort of postpartum depression. My MD had me convinced that NONE of the side affects that I am experiencing are Mirena related. Now after reading all of this I know I'm not the only one!
I had my son May of this year. Before I had him my MD had talked to me about the choice of a birth control after birth. Well I knew very little of Mirena, but once my MD had explained it I was SOLD! No kids for 5 years (not looking to have my next one until about that time) and "little to no side effects." What could have been better. He was singing music to my ears about Mirena. 6 weeks after my c-section I went in for my follow up and was given the ok to get it. I was told that the procedure shouldn't hurt. Liars. I can't believe that they don't numb you for that. Hello.....YOU ARE MANUALLY DIALATING MY CERVIX!!! I bled that day and afterwards and the cramps were out of this world! The doctor just told me to take the left over vicodin I had from my c-section. Two weeks later the craps were still in full throttle!
A few weeks after the insertion I was starting to to become this other person. Mood swings and a total bitch came out of me. My poor husband got the bad end of it. He thought it was postpartum and just let it be. A while after that I began to feel bloated and I started to gain the pregnancy weight back. I wasn't eating any different so I know something was not right. Fatigue was another effect that set in around the same time. I thought it was just trying to adjust with a baby in the house but here it is 5 months later and I have no energy. I promised myself I was going to start going to the gym and I can't muscle up the energy to do that. I'm wiped out by the day's end with taking care of the baby and getting simple house chores done. Also my back hurts ALL THE TIME. I thought that it might have been from the epidural but now I think not. I've always had some breakouts but not that bad. Now I break out all the time, and they are bad. Not to mention that I'm getting breakouts all over my neck, chest and back. I've never broken out like this on my body before. Not even when I was pregnant. Even more recent is my hair that is starting to come out in alarming clumps. I can get a good fistfull in the shower when I'm ringing my hair out, another good one when I blow dry it, and then just randomly during the day. For the most part I've always had thick hair and I'm noticing a DRAMATIC difference!
I've made several calls to my md about the cramps and the things I'm going through and he asked me to just give it a few more months. I'm going to call ASAP and demand that this thing comes out!

I took loestrin for 3 weeks and of all the pills i have ever been on this one is the worst. I have had acne, weight gain, headaches, cramps, no sex drive, anxiety, rapid heart rate, my breast were extremely sore, and depression. I didn't even finish the pack because I was severely paranoid that I was going to have a heart attack. Once I stopped I got my period within 2 days and all of those side effects went away. My only issue now is I haven't had my period since that time. It has only been a month and a pregnancy test came out negative adding to the fact that I don't feel like I did when I was pregnant. It is still frightening though.
