My father had severe bleeding from the rectum thought he had a virus, had to call 911 after that and lost 4 pints of blood in the matter of 1-2 hours. Just trying to figure out if there is a way to prevent this from happening again, he is insulin diabetic he has never had this happen before but is that a sign that he could be at risk again. The only diet change was just eating a few fresh tomatoes over the last week.

Very high or very low blood sugar levels can also lead to emergencies in people with diabetes. The cause can be an underlying infection, certain medicines, or even the medicines you take to control your diabetes. If you feel nauseated, sluggish or shaky, seek emergency care.
